Could you please tell me, as i do not have a Tach, how fast you can get (say a 1998 civic hatch) spining? I was having an arguement with my friend, and i told him they spin faster than most!

Who is right, and could you please tell me what is the max, and when do they redline.

Let's hear more about this. Are you talking about an engine swap here? :|

The DX is a motor swap with a B18C5 with a lot of titenium internal work. Springs, vavles, ect... Push close to 300 horses at the wheel, all motor, no boost or juice

My civic redlines at about 8000 RPM, there has been nothing modified on the engine, but i'm thinking about getting an turbo fixed on my car. I assume that will raise the maximum RPM.
First I thought that it wasn't possible to make a turbo fit on a VTEC engine, but yesterday I heard that it is possible so that is going to be my target for next year.

Educate me a bit. What would the ESi be equivelant to in the US? The Si? Is your car DOHC or SOHC? Just curious.

my 93 ex sohc vtec stock redlined at 7200 and now it is completely modified and puts out close to 320 horse and it still doesn't reline anywhere close to 10000. The highest reving honda automobile is the S2000 which redlines somwhere around 9300 i think

I gotta ask..... What mods do you have? 320 out of a SOHC is pretty impressive.

Yea the 2000 Si redlines around 8,000 whereas the 2002 Si redlines around 6,800. But the '02 is quicker off the line and pulls steady through all gears. You can't feel or really hear the VTEC kick in when you get into the higher end of each gear. However, you can feel and hear the VTEC kick in on the '00 around 5000 or so.

I think that's the real difference. These are the only two Hondas I have driven (except my '89 Prelude Si) extensively in the past 2 years.

It's just higher end speed as opposed to a quicker pull in the early gears between the latest two Si models.

Just my 2 cents.

even though it got the ex...id trade it for a hatch w/ the same mileage so i could to more of a type R style  but...I love my sunroof...and power stuff...its the first car of mine thats had those things :D

ChrisCantSkate
01-06-2003, 09:22 PM
higher redline dosnt equal more power... the cams have to be designed to make power that high. and removing the rev limiter or extending it way past the stock one dosnt increase the redline... the redline is where you should shift to avoid major damage to your engine, the rev limiter is a safegaurd so you dont go too far past the red line.
