You can burn your valves and combustion chamber, detonate, and a myriad of other problems that translate to a long, slow, painful death for your car.

What makes you think you're running rich or lean? What do you have done? From your sig, I'm guessing nothing major.

There are a million air/fuel ratio controllers out there, but in your case (since no major modifications have been done), I'm guessing you have something needing to be repaired, if the a/f is off.

well my car is quite stock engine wise, but sometimes it sound like it's running rich. it's a sound i can't describe, but i know it's running rich and my exhaust has large amounts of deposits on it. how can i adjust it ?

Once again, if you try and remedy this problem with an a/f controller, my guess is that you'll be remedying the symptom and not the cause. I still don't think the problem is your a/f ratio- with the engine still in stock trim, it's pretty hard to run rich. Check your fuel injectors though, just to be safe. Wouldn't you rather fix the problem than work around it?

With a 1992 (assuming average mileage), I would guess it's one of two things: Either your valve timing is off, or your piston rings are showing some wear.
