I am wanting to buy an older prelude (that's all I can afford) and I was wondering if there was a big difference between the 89 prelude si's and the other types engine wise. Any feedback is appreciated.

My friend had an '88 prelude si, and loved it. I'd get the si if you can, and I think that year has a 4ws option too. They are fairly quick, and handle well too. If you're in the market for an older honda, I'd consider one of those, or maybe an early 90s civic...

the engines dont have the power the 92+ engines have. the old si preludes arnt bad cars tho, how much are you looking to spend? and is aftermarket support a big consern of yours?

I will be spending a lot on aftermarket probably. I don't expect the engine to be as good, I was just wondering between the older ones which were better?

If you are going to be spending a lot on aftermarket, why not buy a better car to begin with? It will be very hard to find an older lude with low miles.

My parents are paying for the car so they want to buy something cheap. I however will be paying for the aftermarket stuff w/my pay checks (as they come). So I don't really have the option to get a nicer car.......

Well, I'd probably go with an early 90s civic then due to the larger (I think) aftermarket support. That way you can dump a lot of money into it, engine swap, etc.

Hmm I'll take that into consideration. Are you talking about maybe a 91 civic? or the newer body styles (92-95)?

Well, let me ask you this... are you going to be modding for all out speed? If so, you could swap an engine into a late 80s crx...

Do you have a general price range so we could help you out a little better?
