Okay you tech geeks. I'm about to get me a big screen TV. At least a 42". I'd like to know the differences of these TV's. I'm behind times.... so pardon me. I'm about to move into my new house. My 27 inch is not gonna cut it. Thanks.

I would go with the LCD just because they lasy MUCH longer

We have a 32inch lcd at work, doubles as a TV and display montior run off the computer where we do all sorts of things.

I would stay away from lcd. its too directional, and can burn images in the screen. get a CRT Hd, Sony makes a god one, Panasonic makes a good one. stay away from names you don't know.

actually it's plasmas that have a BIG problem with the image burning into the screen, LCDs don't have this problem at all

you say that like if you pause a movie to take a pee, you'll come back to a ruined tv, lol.

burn in is not a big deal at all, unless you throw an image on the screen and leave it on there 24hours a day. even then, plasmas will shift the image slightly to reduce the possibility of burn in.

the problem with LCD's is that they cost more (last I looked) and that whole directional thing, projection also sucks because of the limited viewing angle.

Ehhhh....close call. I'd go with an LCD, problems and all, simply because I don't like the idea of having to replace my insanely expensive after the gas loses some of it's charge. Chances are with a TV that big anyway, I'm not going to have a huge problem finding a good viewing angle. I suppose that's the benefit of CRT TVs...but even the best HD CRTs can't compare to a mid-level LCD or plasma. If I had a ton of money, I'd go with plasma just because the images are insanely brilliant. But seeing as how I'd have to eventually replace it and I don't have much in the way of money, I'll stick with LCD.

Actually i rank crt hd's above lcd or plasma. Plasma's have a life expectancy of at least 2 yrs (my dad is a tv repairman, he sees them come into the shop all the time, all with a problem with the projection unit(not an actual projector, its a tubeless tv, aso the device that displays the screen is the projection unit)

also lcd's have a 45* viewing angle where as plasmas can vary, and crt has 180+* viewing area. they are also lighter (those slim line flat screens that are 27" and bigger can weigh at least 150 lbs, where as my 52" CRT HD (made by panasonic) weighs around 130 lbs. sure its heavy, but the tv is bigger, so what do you expect.

also most hd tv's you buy dont come a base or wall unit, where as the crt has a built in stand. thats also something you have to look for, how much do you have to buy/install in order to watch friggen tv.

2 years? if that were common the plasma tv industry would've been over before it began. I believe 60,000hours of life is the stated expected life, which is about the same for LCD I think.

52" CRT? are you confusing projection tv's with regular tube tv's (crt's)? projection tv's do not have a 180 degree viewing angle.

yeah, some don't come with a base which is one reason I bought the hitachi, it came with a base that swivels, and is controlled with the remote.

I bet if you use the tv guide button on digital cable enough the columns and rows will burn in, really the best picture quality and resolution you will ever get is with a CRT, if I bought a TV that fuckin expensive it better last a damn long time

60k hours is not enough for you?

That's exactly correct. I was amazed how soon people were willing to jump off the CRT wagon to LCD and plasma units. "Hmmm...these have proven very effective for the last 60 years, but I've got a feeling about these brand new units.". I'll never understand it.

I think its mainly due to size, the largest crt tv i've seen is 36" so when people want something bigger they had to go to projection tv's and projection tv's kinda suck (they're a huge box, limited viewing angle, bulb seems to always need replacing).

so someone made a tv that has a large screen yet is small in overall size, has a great viewing angle, and no bulb to replace and people jumped on it.

have you seen what they're working on now? basically a tv thats just a flexible screen that can be rolled up if you wanted.

CRT using more power, is heavier, bigger and contains more lead. LCD is just new, lighter, smaller, uses less power and contains very little lead.

I hear you steve its a big deal for no reason. However I personally find it easier to work on an LCD monitor then a CRT for some reason. Easier on the eyes I guess.

My TV however is a 32inch CRT and that wont change until we move. I think when space becomes a concern or you're looking for the TV to be less 'in your face' you look at flat TV's.

i have a 30" crt tv, but no HD cable. if i was going HD i'd splurge for something more expensive, but it dosnt matter that much to me as i only really watch southpark futurama and sports. my buddy has a 60" LCD and it looks amazing... i guess i'd have to vote LCD on simply the fact ive been exposed to more LCDs than plasmas.
