Alright...I ordered a 100-pack of blank DVD+Rs last week and have been keeping tabs on the shipment via UPS' tracking site (or trying to, anyway). Such bullshit...here's what it looks like with problem areas highlighted:

http://members.cox.net/sheininger/UPSsucks.JPG

- First of all, notice the red bracket-thingy. It left California and then apparently vanished for 2 days. I find it a bit unlikely that a truck went all the way from CA to KS without stopping somewhere to check in considering that truckers can by law only drive for so many hours a day.

- Second, notice the blue arrow thing. From the time it got to Lenexa (about 2 hours north of here) it took 3 days to get delivered. Since it arrived in Lenexa on a Friday and got to Pittsburg the same day, one could reasonably expect it to get delivered on the next day, a Saturday. Wrong. They waited until yesterday.

-Third, I was in class when they tried to deliver it yesterday so they left a little note saying they'd try again today. Fine...that's my fault. But notice in the green circle thing that, after re-arriving at their facility in the evening that it apparently left again for delivery at 8:45pm. Huh? Simply stunning.

NOTE: The UPS driver actually came by while I was typing this. Haha. I'd left a note on my door asking them to just leave the box if I wasn't home, but she actually came back around because she said a couple of kids were hanging around and she didn't want to just leave it. She even thanked me for leaving the note. So UPS drivers are totally cool...UPS as a company blows.

You dont have a clue what you're talking about. I deal with UPS daily. We ship 10,000's of packages a year with them and have very few issues.

1 - packages are left on trucks and can be 'missing' because the trucks are never opened. I'm assuming you dont realize they use big rigs. You dont expect them to unpack a 16 wheeler to scan each package. They only rescan packages at key points, such as unloading the truck.

2- I'm guessing the package was still delivered in their alloted time to get from ship from address to ship to address. If it took more time then they garentee on their website you are entitled to a full refund on shipping.

3- They pack their trucks up in the evening for morning delivery the following day. Then once all the packages on those trucks are delivered they start making their rounds for pick up.

Finally, your driver is responsible for those packages, its his/her job to make sure they dont get lost/damaged. She has every right to not leave your package at your door should she feel it could be stolen. If you want no service ship with USPS.

In this case its not UPS who sucks, its you who sucks for being so anal about getting you package in one piece and in a timely fashion. I dont hear you thanking them for making a second attempt on delivery or for the fact your package was deilvered in one piece.

Life msut be real slow in your parts to watch your package live on UPS.com and bitch about how it shows up. You have your DVD's and they're in one piece.

** please note I do not work for UPS **

UPS sucks. End of story.

Ok not really...

My bf ordered two RAZRs early March and it was supposed to arrive in two weeks. Ok. They came, no one was home so they tried again the next day. They eventually left it with the neighbour. But (there's always a but) the two phones came in separate boxes. The dumb delivery guy only delivered the first box marked "1 of 2." The second box "2 of 2" disappeared. The guy thought it didn't go with the first box. Talk about dumb, the boxes were right next to each other, they looked EXACTLY the same...

So now, the phone is "lost" according to UPS, and Rogers (our mobile service provider) is doing an investigation on it. It's been a month, the rep we dealt with said the phone is going to be free. Well it better be. If I had a business and this phone was going to be used for it then they would've really screwed me over. But anyhow the phone I ordered also came with a bluetooth headset and a leather case, so ALL of that will be free. The question that remains is:

WHEN THE HELL IS IT GOING TO GET HERE?

I'm being anal because I noted that it would've been easier for them to make a delivery earlier? My shit was just taking up space in their warehouse...I figure it'd be better for them to get it out ASAP. And did you not read the little end note there? I did thank the driver more than once for coming back around. You know Rob...for someone who "doesn't work for UPS", you sure seem to have an intricate knowledge of how they work. As for getting here in one piece...yeah, I got lucky. Usually getting packages from UPS is a fun little scavanger hunt where I get to chek for footprint and whatnot on the box. UPS generally hires bottom of the rung people to work their warehouses so it comes as little suprise that shit often comes damaged or sometimes flat out broken.

And yeah...life moves pretty slow here...but what's the problem with checking once a day to see where my stuff is? It takes all of a minute and gives me a chance to plan ahead (I was running REALLY low on DVDs and didn't want to run out).

If you're going to get all worked up over something that doesn't in any way, shape, or form involve you I'm tempted to feel sorry for you.

I have good knownledge of UPS because we work so closely with them. I speak to my rep weekly. Often its just to re-order supplies but more often then not its to deal with customers like yourself who call me and bitch about stuff they see on their website.

You're assuming they didnt have more pressing packages and assuming you know how to better run a shipping depot. Both assumptions are probably wrong.

For future reference, refer to the estimated delivery date. Then check it out if they dont delivery it on that day. You wouldn't believe the headaches people to call to ask about shipping info on ups.com means.

You can feel sorry for me all you want. Its my business to know the ins and outs of UPS. I'm in the shipping business.

Btw did your package not show up in the time they estimated it?

Side note - why i chose to respond the way I did was because in this area I have alot more knowledge then you and the reasons for your 'ups suck' argument are flat our wrong. Yet you feel the need to share with everyone with how UPS sucks, which indeed is not true. Largest shipping company in North America... must be the worst shipper. I undertand your thought process goes like this 'I could probably think of a better way to do this, so it must suck the way it it' yet you often over look the fact you dont have a clue what the big picture looks like.

Sadly mistakes happen. The guy delivering your phone deals with many packages a day and more then likely isn't stupid but a well educated individual. He probably even has a degree.

It's takes 10 business days for UPS to process a claim and doesnt start until the shipping files the paper work. Since you're dealing with rogers, it's also going to get worse because Ted Rogers doesn't value service, so neither does anyone else in that company. You're getting the shaft because you're dealing with the worse mobile phone company in Canada. Try telus or bell if you want service.

I've tried Telus before, they were crap. Bell gave a lot of people problems too, and they don't have any nice phones...

There in lies teh truth. You were looking for a nice phone. I have found with my travels in Canada and the US that telus has the best network and wonderful tech support. This is also backed up by telus winning best moble phone company in north america for 2005

What the guy at rogers should have done for you was to send you a replacement phone while they sort out the details. In their soes thats what I would have done.

I bow to you, oh guru of shipping wisdom.

Seriously...this is a small town. Around 20K people if you include the students. Roughly 10K permanent residents and virtually no major industry. I can scarcely think of a situation where you couldn't make every delivery in this town in one day with one truck. And if you think this is an isolated incident, you're dead wrong. I've dealt with UPS dozens and dozens of times in the past 10 years or so and only about half of those experiences are what I would call good. Most of the time I get banged up boxes, boxes with footprints (the most common) and on more than one occassion they've actually told me they stopped by my house at a time that I was home to know they didn't. I've never had any issue with USPS or FedEx (well...ok...once with FedEx) Being the biggest of anything doesn't mean a damn thing. The U.S. government is the biggest government on the planet, though certainly not the best. N'Sync was once the biggest musical group in the world and boy did they suck. So you like UPS? Whoopty shit. I don't.

Also...you said you're in the shipping business. How could you possibly be in the shipping business and use UPS? That would be like someone who works at American Airlines booking all customer flights through Delta. It doesn't make any sense unless you're in a business that requires you to ship a lot though it's not in the shipping business per say.

Not to argue facts on this one, but isn't China the largest government on the planet?

We ship with UPS because they are the best people to do business with. Yes Fedex and USPS are relatively good but nothing compares to UPS. No one enjoys dealing with the post office and fedex can be scetchy, not offering tracking on some of their gruond shippments.

Well per capita yeah, China is larger. I'm talking about scope. China doesn't have near the number of useless departments we have. Maybe because they're a bunch of filthy communists. Haha. Just kidding. Or am I?

Maybe your experience is corporate account vs. residential account. Having talked to so many people who've been screwed by UPS, I find it hard to believe that my experience is unique. I have no doubt that any company would value corporate acounts more than a person to person basis. After all, a single person can only give you so much business while a corporation can give you a shitload. It's true...the USPS can be sketchy...but I'm on a first name basis with my mailman back home so he always does right by me. The problem with UPS and FedEx is that 9 times out of 10 you'll get a different person picking up or delivering your stuff, eliminating any chance to get to know them. This generally leads to a common distrust. Maybe it's different in a corporate setting...I don't know. The company I work for uses Roadway and I can tell you that they are the shittiest of the shitty. They once dropped a forklift on a package, re-wrapped it, and delivered it to us anyway. Compared to that kind of service, UPS looks like number 1.

Haha that made me laugh (top part).

You're probably right coporate accounts do get special treatment, and I do see the same driver every day. Actually normally drivers have areas they services and are normally pretty consistant. I also have a rep out East who I contact on their 800 number. Same girl every time and she knows my business, so it makes me biased.

I've seen some pretty crazy stuff happened with packages with alot of different companies. For the most part brown runs like a machine, pack in, pack out with no problems. I can tell you that I even call my UPS corp rep when I ship personal packages because she gets stuff fixed for me. So for me, the track record UPS has with me personally and the company I would rate them number 1 as well.

Yeah, I know what you mean, this phone was suppose to cost $100 but because of UPS's screwups it's free now. It's not that I'm a follower or anything, I've had my eye on it since last year or so.
And good question about why there's that thick piece at the bottom... I don't know why that's there either. But anyhow, it's been shipped out so now, the WAIT.

The Slim? From what I know, that and the ROKR are phasing out because the SLVR is now in full force. In addition, there will be a Motorola V3i soon, which is similar to the v3 now, only it will have MP3 rather than iTunes.

The v3 isn't a bad phone, I think everyone in my family including myself has used it; I just see no point in buying it right now. I mean, it's been out for almost a year and a half and what upgrade does it have? Video. Big woo. The streaming video is shorter than a small dog's shit. For the price and "high value" of the phone, it still has a VGA camera. The Cingular ones were recently placed on a Stop Sell about 3 weeks ago (for a week). Dust gets under the screen. It just makes sense for someone to get it these days only for the reason that it's a quad band. Said and done, I guess I don't blame you for getting it though sense you're with Rogers; I think they have a smaller phone selection so the v3 is still one of their better phones.

I think all phones get dust under them over time. I've had the same phone for 2 maybe 3 years now. cell phones are over rated in general. all these extra crap to busy our lives. a phone was for talking.

I've seen 3 year old phones without dust under the screen. However, I'm talking a whirlwind of dust under the screen before your first 30 day even arrives. Most Nokias get dust under the screen, but you can also remove the face plate on most of them. The Razr on the other end, requires tools.

cell phones are over-rated, but hey, that's how I make my money. :D

Well it's on the way now, and it's also free now too. So I can't really complain right? I saw the comercial for that new slim phone or whatever it's called and to be honest, it looks kinda flimsy. It looks really breakable; it's cool that it's so thin but like the iPod Nano it looks like it would break if I put it in my pocket and sat down. In my opinion the most durable phones are from Nokia and Samsung. You wouldn't believe the hell my bf's phone went through. It was dropped at least 200 times and sanded down and painted at least 5 times (don't ask about the painting) and thrown (more like whipped) against the wall a few times as well. It looks like crap now (that's why he got a new phone) but surprisingly it still works fine.

Actually, UPS does blow a lot of dick.

Example: The company I work for makes Bus doors and the actuators that open and close them. Now, they require that there are at least 3 sheets of bubble wrap on each side of the door, or if there is damage they asume NO responsibility for said damage. Now, about 3 months ago before they required bubble wrap we shipped 1 door that was boxed and loaded at our factory and left perfectly fine heading for KS. about 2 weeks later we get a call from our customer stating and I quote
"Hey guys, the door you sent us will be coming back because we refused delivery because of DoD (damaged on delivery). Just wanted to let you guys know so you have the heads up. Oh, and your gonna love the damages."

Then, it takes another 2 mos before we get it back to the plant to see it.
When the door did finally arrive to us it showed up looking A LOT like this boomerrang.
http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/170492/2/istockphoto_170492_boomerang_in_hand.jpg
Then when the dumb fuck UPS claims guy showed up he informed me that the claim will "Almost certainly" be denied because of missing bubblewrap. Needless to say he had to come back to see what the owner's of the company had to say.
