View Full Version : Erratic Idle

My b16 seems to want to go up and down between 250-500rpm for a few min and then stops. Sometimes longer sometimes not at all. I have changed the idle air control valve a couple times with ones from other engines and nothing, it is either worse or a little better. I am thinking it has to be the IACV but what are the odds that all of them would be bad? I don't have a fast idle anymore so this is the only thing I can think of. I have cleaned it and nothing same across the board. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated because that is the most irritating shit while you are sitting at a stoplight.

Yeah I have checked that, unless I have a hole in one I cant see. It started after I put diffrent injectors. Then it started doing it so I put the original ones back in but it keeps on doing it.

check your curise control VC lines. that was my friend problem on his B16.

if its not there. do the b16 have a idle belt? if so see if that belt is bad.

No cruise and no belt.

check around the throttle body, make sure the gasket is good, or anywhere else on the intake manifold.

I have a new throttle body gasket and a new intake manifold gasket, they are all good. It will only do it after it gets to temp. It was weird that it started doing it after I put diffrent injectors in it but it didnt go back after I put the stock back in. This is so frustrating cause I have changed so much stuff and it still does it.

reset the ecu
I unhooked it from the battery for 4 hrs and nothing. That should reset it right?

There's your problem. Recheck the O-rings on the injectors. Remember that the location of the injectors are still on the intake manifold which must have a tight seal. Another thing to check are your intake manifold bolts. Make sure that they are evenly tight on a pattern OEM recommended.

A buddy of mine was reading this over my shoulder. He's an ex-honda tech. He says just for kicks, check the CTS (Coolant Temp. Sensor). That will cause some of that as well. After reading everything that you posted, it seems like you have a real good idea on whats going on. Have fun.:)

Well its not the coolant temp sensor. I am going to get the seal kit for the injectors now.

After my swap. I had problems with my idle bouncing. the TPS sensor after I put on the big Spoon TB. Apparently my TPS sensor was a little messed with the bigger TB (for a 1.8L and I had a stock (Intake and header, exhaust) 1.6L)

maybe just the idle is set too high. my accord did that too after i took it out of the dealership. all i had to do is unplug the iacv, set the idle screw to 550rps, stop the car and plug the iacv back on. never had another problem with it since,
