Hey Guys

Just a thought I had, you guys probably know better but....

when you turbo charge you vtec engines doesn't that defeat the purpose of the vtec technology. wouldn't you be better with just a specified turbo cam on the more agressive side, for power anyways.

I suspect that the vtec will still provide better drivability than just a large cam.

Please correct me if I am wrong as it was just a thought that came through my head.

Well.... not necessarily. VTEC works with a few different inputs. The main thing it does is, depending on what motor, is allow port(s) on the intake and/or exhaust ports to open allowing more air in and out on a certain state per input from sensors.

If you ask me, that is not a bad thing on boosted motors. After all, force induction is all about air volume

i think the advantages are seen more because the high lift/ high duration lobes (vtec) allow you to get more air into the engine in NA trim. SO when it's boosted, it allows the valves to stay open higher and longer so you can force air in.

Trust me, vtec is still fun on a boosted engine. Just make sure nobody is watching you when those lobes change over
