View Full Version : I do so love being lied to

Ok...so I waited a while to post anything about this hoping matters would change. Sadly, they have not. The point in question? What has come to be known as the Downing Street memos.

Why is this important to you? They are memos from British intelligence leaked to the British press that in so many words prove that the U.S. as a whole was lied to when (and likely before) we went to war. The memo is a record of minutes taken from a meeting that states, and I quote, "Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.". The phrase "facts were being fixed around the policy" means that the facts presented to the U.S. public were, in fact, manufactured to accomodate the desired results...and the desired result was war. Forget for a moment that there was zero intelligence that Iraq had WMDs. Forget that it's nuclear program was, and again I quote, "essentially frozen". Forget that the Iraqi regime had zero proven ties to 9/11. My beef is that this has gone virtually (if not totally) ignored by the mainstream media. In the past week I've watched roughly 10-12 hours of cable news without a single report of this report. That's a bit more than an hour a day...almost 2 hours. All I hear about is female troops attacked in Iraq and that dumb whore who got herself kidnapped in Aruba 3 weeks ago and is in all likelyhood dead (though no media outlet has the balls to say that). If our media is so fucking "liberal", why is no one screaming for impeachment or at the very least a congressional hearing?

This subject has become the topic of countless "left wing" blogs so how is it that the mainstream media missed it completely? it's simple. It's not news. News is something you didn't know before you heard it. Bush's approval ratings are free falling and people are sick of seeing Amerikan casualties dominating the nightly news. We're at 1700 and counting (not taking into account any Iraqis that may have been "accidentally" killed by weapons that cost millions to produce and promise laser-like accuracy). So with such damning evidence that Bush lied why is he not being charged with the very least 1700 counts of 2nd degree murder (homicide by depraved indifference) or one massive count of grand larceny (I would consider spending billions of ill-appropriated taxpayer dollars "the unlawful taking of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it permanently"). People who oppose Bush have been screaming "lies!" for so long that to trumpet the fact now would be redundant. It's like the boy who cried wolf...but now that boy has evidence of a wolf and people still ignore him. So if the police are rendered powerless, the question remains...who will police the police? Apparently it's not the fucking media. If the French and the Canadians are pussies for not joining us, what does that make us? Murderers? Morons? Accomplices?

Its a classic media move - dont correct yourself to "save face".
They dont want to look like they screwed up. Well...not only them, but the government that they support and are supported by.

exactly, plus its propaganda, they still want us to think we're doing the right thing...at least those whom supported it in the first place

The problem is there's no way to correct themselves since they never reported it in the first place. It appeared in The Washington Post and to a lesser extent I'm told in Newsweek, but why has it gone completely ignored in other venues? it's one thing to misrepresent a story or to report it in limited contexts, but to completely ignore something with implications this large isn't just bad form, it's criminal.
