Hi!

The thing is that, for me to be able to use a certain file-sharing program (Direct-connect), I have to put myself in *passive mode*. Cause of the damn firewall in my router (Yes I finally got the linksys 4 port router to split my connection).

For me to be able to go in *Active mode*(all features) I need to enter some stuff here :

I've tried entering the WAN ip address, but I didnt know which port to enter.. How do I find the port number I'm supposed to enter?

What else should I try??

Any help, would be appreciated. I'm lost.. ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;(

Thanks,
JP

what model is it ?

i got a BEFSR41 and it has some issues with the ftp transfer. Most likely that direct conect program is an ftp, and get rid of the firewall too.

how do i get rid of the firewall?

OK, I finally was able to make it work.. What I did is used the DMZ host, and forwarded all my computer's ports to be exposed to the net. With this way I just needed to enter the WAN ip address that was given to me, and for the port I left 412 (default).. All is cool..

did u download that pccilin and zonelabs crap ? Get rid of that first. i dunno about any fixes yet. So you think that DMZ will fix my ftp problem ?

I dont even know what is *pccilin and zonelabs *, so I probably dont have it.

The DMZ thing should work, cause it forwards ALL the ports of the specific computer.. So I'm thinking full functionnality.

I am very sorry that It took me so long to get to this, I just started a new job, so I have been very busy.

Here is what you need to do.
You need to find out what PORTS are being used by that program.(Contact them, or they might have it on thier web page)
After you find out what ports are being used. You MUST set your PC to a STATIC IP Adress (let me know if you need help with that)

Then go into the router, and FORWARD those PORTS to the IP Adress that you assigned to your PC.

Then you should be set to go as far as using that program.

Now if you are having some one grab files off your PC then it gets a little harder.

Do the same as above, then you need to cantact you ISP and ask them weather or not they assign your IP adresses, STATICLY or DYNAMICLY (Cross your fingers that its Static) Then give that ip adress to whom ever is trying to connect to your PC.

BTW, DMZing your PC will also work, but know that your computer is fully exposed to the net, I would try to find out what ports are being used.

The DMZ is the wusses way out :pukey

Ok, with the info you gave me, I'll try to set it up by just forwarding the ports I need.

But just for me ko know, In DMZ, when you say I'm fully exposed..
You mean exposed, like everybody else (who arent behind a firewall) are, right? I'm not any more exposed than them?
