I don't like the optics on the Sony cameras. I have a Nikon 5200 and it is amazing. Look into Nikon- very solid cameras that take fantastic pictures, especially if you will be using it mainly for taking pictures of people at parties etc.

Well, true, Sony does own. I have the Sony Cybershot and it kicks ass. But the man asked for a 200$ camera, not a 400$ one...so Olympus would be his best bet.

My mom buys Sony's for the school she works in...so I get a new camera every time she updates ;).
They are pretty nice, I have to say, but Im getting to the point where there just isnt the type of adjustability that I would like (like I have seen in Nikons of comparible price.)

i have a hp photosmart 318 or something like that... for me its great, cause it was a camara i needed to put through hell and back, and it survived, tons of drops, left in my car in the heat for very extended periods of time(even warped the plastic battery plate cover thing). picture quality is good, i can take pictures of papers(school notes and whatnot) on the lowest quality and read it fine with no blur or strain at all. it dosnt have the best zoom, only 2x i think. but it was cheap, and probobly cheaper now.

i have a sony and i can't freakin figure out how to take real close up shots, the stupid thing keeps focusing on the background.

My camera (a Mustek DV4000) was about $150...and it sort of shows. The pics it takes aren't great (and you can almost forget low-light situations) but it does something like 7 other things. I didn't need a superb camera...and the pic quality is good...just not great. It's also an MP3 player, digital voice recorder, it'll take full motion video, SD/MMC card reader, act as a webcam, etc., etc. I do kind of like how it has a small flip-out screen instead of just having one on the back...I always have an awkward time with those.

Most of the sony's I use have a little icon that looks like a flower that is for macro shots. If that doesnt work, do you have a focus wheel?
