within this year dvd technology may be taking a step up to the better quality type of disc.
Blu-Ray technology will make it possible for DVDs to hold anywhere from 25-50GB's as the reader will implement a blue-violet laser which has a much smaller wavelength than the now used red laser readers. now these bluray discs will not be compatible with standard red laser players but oh well. as far as television goes we'll actually be able to watch our movies in high-Def. I've been watching after this for a few months now and it looks as if there are two types so far which are compatible with eachother, backed by different companies..we'll see how that goes
but heres a site with more information on Blu-Ray in particular

yeah it should be interesting in the next year. Which standard will be adopted, what new copy protection schemes will be implemented along with it, and how much these new players are gonna cost.

if you think blue ray is cool, check this out: Holographic storage. WAAAAY more storage space, and it shows a lot of promise.
