So for the last month or so some bog trotters have been calling me and leaving messages for "Russ". I don't know Russ. No one named Russ has ever lived here. I don't know who had this number before me, but it probably wasn't a guy named Russ. Anyway...they like to wake me up with calls and leave messages that sound all friendly like they're not going to break his legs for whatever he owes them. The messages sound something like "Hey Russ, I was wondering if you could gimme a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX and blah blah blah". After 7 messages on my machine in as many days, I called them back myself. This is a rough transcript of the conversation that followed:
Guy - "Hello?"
Me - "Yes I'm calling in reference to account number XXXX" (they always leave an account reference number)
Guy - "Hmmm...(I hear typing on a computer). Oh hey! Russ!"
Me - "No...I'm not Russ, but you seem to think I am. You keep calling me at this number and leaving me messages like I give a shit."
Guy - "Well how can I be sure you're not Russ?" (at this point the only thing in my mind is "jesus...what balls")
Me - "You'll be sure when I file harrassment charges against your ignorant asses if I continue to get phone calls for a person I don't even fucking know exists"
Guy - "Uhhh...there must be some sort of mix up...I'll have to change the number in the computer. I apologize for the inconvenience"
Me - *click*
I await their next call. It's been a while since I really tore into someone. So does this happen to anyone else? It used to happen a lot on my cell phone until I made people feel stupid for calling the wrong person. I hate these people.

In KC we used to get calls for Tippins (a resteraunt chain, if they're not in your area) since our number was one digit different. People would start ordering pies before I could even tell them they'd called a residence. Sometimes they'd even leave orders on our answering machine. My only consolation is that those dipshits showed up for their food and got jack shit. I hate people.

MAN! I used to get calls like that CONSTANTLY from some prick looking for some whore named cherri. I eventually did file charges with his ass and the calls stopped (duh). It was the biggest damn pain in the ass...I know exactly how it is.
At least theyre not looking for Russ at 2am...apparently cherri was a great booty call at 2am every saturday

In all seriousness, once a company/person has been made aware of your desire not to receive calls anymore, continued calls can be construed as harrassment and thereby held to a criminal statute. If they're not companies who have a right to contact you (i.e. bill collectors), then they are harrassing you. I wasn't fucking with this guy...I'm sick of getting woken up by their bullshit phone calls. If I get even one more message or call, I'm contacting my landlord (who happens to be a local sheriff's deputy) to find out how to proceed in charges against these fucks.
