my friend wants an s2000 and wants to make it fast as balls. so what can be done? would it be a bad idea to supercharg it because of the high compression?
and if so what would he all need to do
also if he were to keep is N/A what could be done to make it quick?
I know there are a few of you FI gurus around here aswell as NA..so what is it folks?

I would definitely go FI. A blower would work well...but I remember seeing a "tuner" S2000 that was turbo'ed. That's what I'd do. Blowers are good...but turbos are better. As far as the CR goes...you could run a little less boost or just buy some dished pistons and lower the CR to something like 10:1 or 9.5:1. A really good intercooler would help with that too. You could go N/A, but I don't see anyone getting a huge power boost from a motor that small N/A.

what would say would be the pros and cons of either supercharger or Turbocharger on an engine like that
Vortech makes a supercharger which claims 108hp
but then again I saw a turbocharged s2000 that claims something like 400+ hp
but it seems it's hard to squeeze more power out of that engine without going FI

Well...superchargers are usually a bit more efficient with their air charge temps since they're not running off of exhaust gas. Then again, intercoolers can even that out. Turbos are almost perfect...if you can deal with a little added heat. Superchargers actually use power to turn, so you don't realize the full potential. plus blowers tend to put more stress on the crank snout. With a centrifugal blower like Vortech (I'd go with ATI Procharger instead, but that's me), the boost is in line with the rpm which becomes a pain unless you like reving the shit out of the motor. If you could find a twin screw or Lysholm blower, that'd be great, but I've never seen one for an S2000 so a turbo would be my choice.

yeah i read somewhere that turbos are better for small cam engines, while superchargers should stay with larger cams
which makes since
but i was telling him maybe go with turbocharger, he just wanted to know the pros and cons to a turbo instead..I think i may some info now to inform him
but I also read that the rear differential sucks on the stock s2000 so upgrading it would be the #1 thing for him to do

It's not so much how big the cam is on turbo vs. blower cars, it's more about the lobe seperation angle (LSA). A higher LSA gives you a better idle but usually not as much top end potential (unless it's a custom grind like mine) and a lower LSA gives a lumpier idle with more top end capabilities. For a turbo something in the 113-115 degree LSA area works best usually while blowers like something in the 108-110 degree LSA area. This is, of course, mostly from my knowledge of V8s. The numbers might be a little different on smaller displacement motors, but the same principle applies.

and I'll keep that in mind, so you personally think turbo would be more beneficial on the s2k?

For any car...especially a small motor car like the S2000.

gotcha, I'll show him a print out of this conversation

i'd say that NA is out of the question for the S2k since so much power is already being extracted.
you need to talk to him and ask him how crazy he wants to make it. Is he looking for more power that will be streetable, or does he want a 500hp 8000RPM monster?
If he wants to go the supercharged route, comptech makes some nice stuff, and i think you can still retain you warranty.
As far as turbo's go, the sky's the limit. A higher comp. engine will yield more power, but must the margin for tuning error is much smaller. That's assuming that he's going to do normal boost levels around 5-10 psi.

he wants a good streetable car. this will be his dailydriver so he just wants something that has a good amount of power but nothing outrageous
