On my way home from class (for lunch) I ended up behind this Plymouth Breeze on the highway, and then down the off-ramp.

I was right behind it when the driver decided to turn right-on-red and her driver's wheel came right off the hub, rolled across the street (oddly enough w/o hitting anyone in busy traffic) and her car came to a flat hault on its belly (I've always wondered what it would look like).
I pulled over to help and saw that all lugs were sitting in the street. 3 had apparently not been tight and they worked themselves off. The studs were not stipped...neither were the lugs......they just weren't tight.

I wanted to share this information so all of you can recheck the torque on your lugs. I did as soon as I got home...all safe @ 85ft/lbs.

Still....sucks for her. I wonder if she knew they were loose? She was driving pretty slowly. Luck would have it, if she was on her way to discount or belle tire only 1/2 mile down the street.

I had a couple lugnuts come loose before, I could tell something wasn't right so I stopped and checked before something bad happened. Loose lugs = bad news.:o

Over the summer where I live there was someone going around loosening peoples lug nuts. I think they caught the guy doing it, but like pdigg said it's a good idea to check 'em.

There was a guy that was I went to school with that was going around and undoing peoples lugnuts and laughing a bout it. He eventually beat someone over the head with a paddle and went to jail for murder...good guy:o

Three? I could see one or maybe two by mistake...but three of them loose? Sounds more like someone doesn't like her. Man...if someone ever fucked with my lugs, I'd get out my breaker bar, re-tighten them, and then beat said person with said breaker bar.

I never thought about checking mine regularly until my friend had a slick pop off during the 1/4mile run this summer and fxked his fender up.
