The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) tracks the starting salaries of new graduates in particular disciplines. The NACE's Summer 2003 Salary Survey reports the following average starting salaries for various college degrees:

1.Chemical engineering: $51,853
2.Electrical engineering: $49,946
3.Computer science: $47,419
4.Accounting: $40,546
5.Information sciences: $39,718
6.Marketing: $34,628
7.History: $32,108
8.English: $30,157
9.Psychology: $27,454

Interesting. I'm going finance, wish I saw it on the list somewhere...

wheres mechanical engineering dammit!? should be similiar to the other 2 though.

psychology, now thats a winner.

I would think both finance and mech. engineering would be off the charts on that list. Finance especially. My cousin got a job after she graduated college (Notre Dame) doing something in finance in New york for just under $100k/year...starting. Now she makes more money than god.

When I started in on my computer engineering degree, the avg starting salary was almost $60k. It was just a little higher than electrical (the two majors are very close in material). Now that I've graduated I don't like to see that those figures have gone down. Oh yeah, that reminds me... I need to find a job :D
