View Full Version : Too lazy for clever names? Use numbers!

In all seriousness, what the hell is with the current automotive trend towards scraping the idea of names for new cars and instead settling on alpha-numeric insignia instead? Cars used to have cool names...Mustang, Evolution, Charger, Boss, Thunderbird, Firebird...names that gave you an idea that the car meant business. Now it's all numbers. How the hell am I supposed to be impressed by names like XK8 or X5 or 323? They're just numbers and letters. There's nothing impressive or intimidating about numbers and letters. It's gotten so bad that my mother, possibly the most unknowledgable person I know automotively speaking, commented on it. So, on that note, I would like to invite the automotive industry to fellate me copiously. Fuckers.

Man my buddy and I were actually talking about that the other day. We were coming home from a road trip and naming all the names of vehicles and where they came from. then the numbers thing. So stupid. I don't like it one bit...very ghey actually.
Who cares?...if you want cars to have some more cool names...make your own.

Well...since the entire industry is based on creativity...I care. Once creativity loses out to lazyness cars will start to suck, and if you think they suck now just wait and see.

^chris they already made that car...remember the little thing called the Toyota Matrix;) , looks like their one step ahead of you
but to the point me and a friend have noticed and have discussed this. but I must say one of the worst ideas from Chevy is to call a car "Cobalt"...especially when in the ad it's a red color, last time I checked cobalt is a form of blue. seirously anyone with a brain thats capable of thinking would see that commercial and laugh at them

At least Nissan didn't just start doing it now...they've always been lazy like that. Just like BMW, Mercedes, and Ferrari. Of course...does it really matter what Ferrari names their cars? You just know they're gonna own you.

Yeah, lately I've been doing some comparisions on all the automakers new car models and I came to this sad conclusion: They all suck! Nobody makes a decent car I would want to buy for under 20k! Not only do they have no performance to speak of, they are butt-ugly to boot. Somebody should start remanufacturing old cars en masse, and sell them at the same price they were when they debuted. I would buy one.
But yeah, these unimaginative names annoy me too. Not quite sure where it started, but like all things, I'm sure its just a trend and it will pass.
Another thing that annoys me is the trim level designations on various models. Like on a del sol, type S means the sucky model, but Type S is used also on on the RSX (which doesnt have a sucky model, i dont think). And every car maker seems to use some from of LX, DX, ES, EX, LE, etc. etc., and they all mean different trim options (like LX might be the top model in one brand, and in the other its the lowest budget version).
Just annoys me,
