Anyone running any WiFi? If so then which, g/b/a? Anyone know about WEP? Is there a way to restrict users? What hardware is actually needed ( i'm not going to have any wired systems)?

I want to setup a WiFi but don't want anyone to be able to just piggy back it for free. I have several friends that get WiFi off their neighbors and they have no clue.

thanks in advance.

i have one setup.

basically you need a WAP and the wireless cards. Then on the router you set a WEB key then encode. you have 3 options for encriptyon there and you will encode it at the level of security you want. then when you install the cards you will select the same key and encode it the same way you encoded it on the WAP. your wireless will still be visible but not acessible. ohh and btw i use linksys

Yeah, I have a setup, but its not in use right now. I'm using the Linksys WAP54G piggybacked onto a BEFSX41 (or something like that). WEP is weak, WPA is better. Yes you can restrict users by MAC address on most systems. You need to have a wireless access point and a router, or a wireless AP/router combo. All of your computers will then need wireless ethernet cards. Really easy to setup. I don't like having all wireless stuff though because when something does go wrong, you'll need a wired connection to work on the router.
