so ive recently started listening to tool and have been looking into some of maynards deep thinking, and little secrets of their albums and whatnot. anyways i stumbled across this (http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/question/insight7.html) i reordered the tracks and honestly im completly blown away. no album has ever sounded this good. lateralus was "good" now its up there as possibly best album ever. they are jsut too musically talented its sickening, in a good way.

Tool...meh. I liked their earlier stuff...but then people I knew got waaaaaaaay too into it. They're cool...but they're not the best thing to happen in the history of music (like many people would have you believe). In summation...they're good...not great.

yeah, im not a metal fan by any means, but tool is just too damn good. they are kinda mainstream, but every now and then a really good band can have fans.
i would compair this rearrangment now that ive listened to it WAY too many times to pink flyods dark side of the moon. out of order it just sounds wrong now. theres a whole mathimatical reasoning behind the rearrangment (simple version: 6+7=13 8+5=13 9+4=13 etc.) which coensides with other patterns found throughout the album. (the syllabols of singing in lateralus is the feminacci(sp?) sequence(1,1,2,3,5,8,13) as are some of the drum beats. there are hints of spirals (back to old thought: which if you graphed the feminacci sequence you'd get the golden spiral) in lyrics.
their music is more than just semi-simple guitar riffs and weird beats, everything is placed for a reason and for a band whos songs average about 8 mins i give them the  for being able to basically stop me from listneing to much other music.

I just don't see it. I hear the complexities...the timbre and time changes and the technicality of the music, but it never really made me feel like good music is supposed to. Music is just like a movie...if you come away from it feeling and thinking then it's good no matter what style it is done in. Tool just never did that for me. Don't get me wrong...it's not bad by any means. I just don't think it's the end all be all that most people want it to be. But I'm always in the minority when this topic comes up.
