OK I think my freagging 2nd gear is starting to go.... Sometimes when I go to 2nd front first at high rpm i hear grinding. Not too long but enough to hear. It just sounds like a loud click! also I was experiencing 2nd gear slippage today. It just went to neutral.

Can anyone give me ideas on how to fix this problem as well as making my car performance wise? If I were to change my stock clutch to stage 1 clutch, would that fix the gear slippage/grinding problem?

Any advice would be apreciated.

is your car still under warranty?

grinding could be from bad/wearing synchros (do you power shift/slam gears often?).

Slippage could be from the clutch going bad. Go about 15-20mph and put it into 5th. If your speed slowly increases but your rmp's rise quickly your clutch is bad.

You can try changing your tranny fluid to GM Sychromesh friction modified fluid as a bandaid. You have to order it a GM parts desk.
You could also try double clutching when you go into 2nd...that would kinda hide the issue.

i think he means that once its in second gear, it'll slip out into neutral. which (i'm pretty sure) would also mean synchros, my tranny will do that every once in a blue moon and the synchro on that gear is also bad. but it doesnt grind w/ the GM synchromesh.

damn your car is a 01 how could you have jacked up the tranny so fast?

ah...my fault - didnt fully read it

I also beleive that it would slip out from bad synchros.

The only way you couldve trashed those so quick is if you beat the hell out of that car...you or the previous owner.

it only slipped once which was yesterday. And yes I do power shift the gears. Whats normal is that when gear is set to second it makes a loud click noise kinda like grinding. Yes I abuse the car big time, but only for 10k mileage. ill try going into 5th gear and see what happends. Ill also change the fluids

no warranty =( car has about 60k mileage now

No, it wouldnt be the clutch, dont bother trying that technique.

Youve beaten on it and youve damaged the synchros. Eventually they'll die and you'll have to replace them (very expensive)

Congratulations you have a wounded transmission.

Get some synchromesh...like I said, its a bandaid, nothing more

also not cheap
call your gm dealer and ask them for the price of part # 12377916
You will need 3bottles (its actually like 2.5quarts)

i thought i had screwed my 2nd gear synchro because i used to slam it pretty hard, but now it always engages even when i rip into it quick. So i'm not sure if i just ground the synchros down a little so they just engage good, but whatever. Double clutching is nice to do occasionally, helps getting into gear when downshifting, and it's less work on the synchros.
