Alright...I'm just trying to inject a few threads here and there that didn't have time to do when I was on my break. Besides, the forum's slowed down quite a bit so I figure who's it gonna hurt?

So while on break we here in Kansas and Missouri (and probably all over the country) held primaries and made some other decisions about our shithole states and I've come to realize just how many bigots I'm surrounded by. There was a proposal on the table in Missouri (where I don't vote...I live in Kansas) to add a gay marriage ban to the Missouri constitution. Nevermind that gay marriage was already on the books as illegal in MO, we just HAD to have an ammendment to stick in the state's constitution. This is the first time this has ever been done and sets a pretty dangerous precident. I knew the proposal would pass because, for those who don't know, most people here in the midwest are particularly backwards and moronic...but it passed by something like 70% supporting the ban and 30% against it. That's what sickened me. People so hardcore dipshit (because I'm convinced "dipshit" is now an official party affiliation) that a law wasn't enough for them...discrimination had to be written into a document that most would consider sacred. Good going, fucks. Now I've voiced my support for gay marriage before because it doesn't hurt anyone and I believe everyone has the right to get divorced. And maybe it's also because I'm in a unique position to know better than 98% of the rest of these people what it's like to be different and get shit because of it from small minded assholes. Plus this is a topic deeply rooted in religion and I think it's wrong to play on people's religious ideals to enlist their vote. There ought to be a law seperating religion and politics. Oh wait...there is. And if you oppose gay people getting married strictly on religious grounds, not only are you wrong but you're a bigot. Like how black and white I can make things? Don't pretend marriage is a sacred and holy thing when half of them end in total fucking train wrecks. So I hope that everyone in MO is happy with their decision to set back civil liberties and basic humanity a few hundred years. Here's to you, you bigoted cowardly fucks.

but i think the problem starts if the church is to marry these gays if the law says they have to.

Well maybe, but the way laws are here make it impossible for the government to force a given church to marry anyone. Besides, marriage in these terms is not a church thing, it's a legal thing. It's what entitles spouses to property upon death, medical benefits, hospital visits, etc. Any church can refuse to marry anyone gay, straight, or whatever so church's aren't an issue this time around.

we have a similar issue up here, however there is less of a seperation between church and state.

I don't think gays should be labled with marriage, because the definition of marriage in the union between a man and a woman. I can understand how two people who claim to love eachother and claim to be gay want equal treatment under the law however they should get their own union title thats no marriage.

its funny, as much as they are gay and try to be different. In a gay couple ones always more male then the other and when they want to get married its so not gay.
