View Full Version : Do you think this will work?

I just want to buy a set of type cams and maybe the header off it. Do think that this should actually do anything worth while or just put it off? I would probably need the type s ecu then for the better "I vtec" right?

I dont think changing the ecu and cams will give the better ivtec...but it wouldnt hurt to get some that are more aggressive.

is the difference between you motor and the type s, all in the head? if so do a head swap, should be pretty easy.

Really.....I thought that that was all it was is the more aggresive cams and the ecu telling it to switch to the other lobes.
no there is a little more than just the head difference. There is some better bottom end work and I have an extra pully and they have some other crap....

yeah, its the actual head and full valvetrain that makes the better ivtec - not just cams and ecu.
If you were to upgrade to more aggressive cams youd still have the standard ivtec, but a better oomf, probably toward the top-end.

yea but, would the stock type s cams yeild anything useful or should I just not mess with them?

Im not sure if theyre even compatable
and if they are then its cant be worth the money
EDIT**
Bam y0! Just as I thought

K20A3 has only Vtec in the intake cam. K20A-A2 have Vtec lobes on both cams. This means not only would the Computer need to be swapped out but the head and rocker (valve train) arms would need to be swapped. Basically go buy yourself a type S head and internals set up with type S ECU

how hard is swapping the head over?

from what Ive seen its just bolt on and go since all k's have ivtec
there isnt anything special to add as w/ ls/b20vtecs

that be the first mod i'd do if i had a new si then. do you know if they dyno about the same, the -s and a si w/ a head swap?

No I never bothered to ask anyone about that...But I bet the si is lower than the -s anyway. Just simply cause of the compression difference and everything like that

is the added compression from the haed's combusion chamber or from pistons?
This is why I need to look more into K's...
All I know is that the k24 from the crv mates fine w/ the k20 s head and makes large displacement-super ivtec fun

so basically the newest generation of civic si's and rsx's with the k20 have ivtec, which only modifys the intake valve timing, unless (well in the acura's case) it's the type s, with a k20a3 where it has vtec on both cams. Correct?

from what i know
but its the a3 thats in the si and base rsx
a2 in the rsx s
And actually...I think the ctr and itr have the exact same k20a engine in them
