My stock cover just came off. I notice a crack in it so I think I need to replace it. Does anyone have an opinion what what kind of converter I should buy? Being street legal is very important to me.

How are those hi-flow cats? Are they legal? Or should I just buy another stock one?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

somebody makes a good hi-flow cat which is legal, I just use a straight pipe which isn't.

what did you do so you wouldn't throw a code?

i'm obd1 so i dont worry about such things ;)

all you have to do is get an o2 sensor simulator to trick the computer.

im running straight pipe also. there is no code to throw off. the sensor is in the header not the cat. so it doesnt read anything wrong.

obd2 has a 2nd sensor to make sure the cats working. its good to be obd1.

Am I ob1 or ob2? Its a 97 civic ex. What would I need to do inorder to operate the after market cat? Do I just simply bolt on or are there steps I should be aware of reguarding the sensors?

youre obd2
You need an o2 bung drilled and welded in place. Any shop can do that...any

Just remove the old cat and sensor (you cant always see it but there is a connector up in the car body...pull it out and disconnect.) - be careful w/ the sensor...dont touch the element.
Self explanetory once youre there.

Also, how important is the heat shield on the stock cat? Basically, what I'm asking is that how much longer before I really have to get a new cat. The original heat shield rusted and just came off.
