i dont know if theres a way from the vin number, but if its a 94-96 it will either be red black or a jade green, have leather AND be 5spd. if its not, and they say its a vtec, then its a swap or they are lying. the 93's also only came in 5spd and those colors but didnt come with leather. usually if someone has a vtec prelude its advertized as one.

the engine code you'll be looking for is h22a1. its a 2.2lt dohc (not shoc they made a 2.2 sohc prelude)
oh btw welcome to the board

is it true all SIs came in dohc v techs too?

civic SI's? if so only the 99+ the older civic SI's are just sohc.

the prelude SI's are a dohc 2.3 non vtec engine(h23a). some people swear by them for boost application, but honestly you want a h22 in a prelude.

ahh ok i forgot something

theres 3(4 or 5 but i'll explain) models for the 92-96 preludes

S - 2.2 135hp

SI - 2.3 160hp
-----SI/4ws - 4 wheel steering with the 2.3 160hp engine
-----SE - its an SI with all the vtec options except the motor

vtec - 2.2 190hp.

sometimes people call the vtecs si/vtec though, that might have thrown you off.

well... the motor will drop in any 4th or 5th gen (92-96 and 97+) prelude without problems, the S's and SI's require a little extra wiring, but nothing too difficult. i would go for an SI to have power locks already installed and the better looking gauge cluster.

oh btw all 97+ preludes came with h22's, but i would aviod the SS/auto/tiptronic trannies since they dont hold crap for power and are notorious for problems

Welcome to HS!
i was a "camaro kid" myself for awhile. but the gas mileage sucks and imports are more reliable.
