So, as I mentioned in another thread, I'm hosting an auction on Ebay for my brother. He's trying to get rid of his ex wife's wedding and engagement ring. So I set the price at $3000 and a "buy it now" price of $3500. That was yesterday. Today I crawled out of bed and had an email waiting for me with a question about the auction. The guy was offering $3400 with shipping included. I almost jumped at the chance...but then I noticed it was international. Blarg...but not a huge setback, I though. I've shipped stuff abroad before...no big deal. Wrong again. Apparently where he lives (Singapore, of all places) prohibits the import of jewelry. Why? No fucking clue. So I told him no dice since I'm not down with intenational crimes. He emails me back telling me he'll offer $4K and by this time I'm laughing my ass off. You'd think I was trying to send him a key of cocaine or something. But then, I'm ashamed to say, I actually considered it...for a few seconds. I figured it'd get confiscated by customs and I'd be in some shit I can't even begin to comprehend (you all know how I've got a wicked firm grasp of import/export laws:rolleyes: ). So what do you guys think? Would you have done it for 4 grand?

If the money was sitting on my desk in cash after cashing his money order... yes.
I goto a 'pack and ship place' and ship it from there. If you send stuff as a gift it typically not a problem and if it is i dont believe its your fault you arent under their laws he is.

No such luck...he wanted to pay with a credit card. But then again I also got the feeling he wasn't really from Singapore. Maybe living there...but how many people from Singapore are named Daniel?

Actually his english was great...that was the first thing I looked at. I wish I had a place where I could check the address to see if it's real. At this point I just said fuck it. It's not my stuff and I don't want my brother stiffed out of a huge wad of money. Dude can buy his own jewelry in Singapore if it's that important.

ANYTIME someone offers you more than you're asking they're trying to play on your greed...
It's like when people try to buy parts off the parts trader and tell you they're buying it for a friend who ows them more than you need from them... they then ask if they can send you 7k for a 2k purchase and you wire 5k back to them...
Only with the CC's they just offer to pay whatever they think will make you say OK.
Don't do it.
Especially don't mess with singapore... they will put you in jail for the rest of your life for eating bubble gum (well till a couple of months ago).

Watch out man, this is a well known scam that uses stolen cards and such. I'd stay away
