Right click my computer, select manage (win2k)...

Otherwise just go to control pannel --> admin --> services.

Click on services and go down to messenger. Double click to get to properties and set to disabled.

That's it ;)

just for fun, you all might also want to get into the group policy editor. there are all sorts of little obscure things that you never knew you could change easily (including that messenger crap)

because i'm not 1337 enough to find it myself, i just used tweakui (or is it tweakxp?) and then it is under one of the first few tabs. tweak ui is nice to have, too.

For xp users that get the annoying messanger pop-up.
1) go to control panel
2)performance/matinence
3)administrative tools
4)services
5)right click messanger servce then click stop

there are also alot of other things you should turn off so your . computer will boot/run alot faster. If you think your computers running slow because of the low memory, reply to this post and I will tell you what you can turn off or on. The info is also online at www.blackviper.com

^^^

Yeah that's a good site.
I have all of the extra services turned off on a couple of rigs. It increases security in some cases, but the performance increase is minimal unless you have an older system.

Go to start run and type "mmc" (no quotes).

Once inside the console go to File>Add/Remove snap in.

From there select group policy, then hit add, and then finish to select the local computer.

Thats it. And blind is right there is a number of stuff you can do with that. The MMC is only aviable in Win2k/XP/NT4.0
