wiring daylights

Hey I got a question for all you smart people. does anyone know how I might go about wiring up my highbeams as daytime running lights? got any ideas how, holla!

i thought daytime running lights just turn on your regular lowbeam lights automatically...oh well.

i got an idea, so hook up a relay directly to your high beams lights and make it turn on when the ignition is on. then make another relay that will turn off that relay when you switch on your headlights on manually. so when its about night time, when you switch on your headlights, it turns off the high beam relay. and you have regular driving lights. wow!!

so..you say run your high beams as drl's? why not the lows?

I'd say just do it the way that cars equipped with drl's do it; use a photosensor. i wouldn't hook it up as a direct switch though...probably too much current...use a relay, maybe?

yeah I was wanting to use the HB because I have a set of MTEC yellows on the way (they have that sexy 100watt yellow glow like Lexus)
and me and a friend wanted to give our headlights that "JDM" look, catch my drift?
I think it would look sweet, but maybe that just a childs dream ;)

p.s. my friend was thinking maybe wire up a resistor so not as much current would be let through and when you flicked the highbeam switch it would intensify, do you think this might be an option?

i catch your drift. sounds like a cool idea to me.

My first response there was crap. I was thinking a photosensor acting as a switch on the positive line to your lights, then I throw in the bit about the relay even though I hav no idea how a relay would be used.

I think I have a better idea. Just tap into the wires that come out of your current headlight switch (or highbeam switch). I'm assuming those tiny little switches already have current limiting taken care of.
Although I wonder just how much current we're talking about...I think an average high beam's power rating is around 100 watts, divided by 12 volts...about 8.3 amps...damn.

well I guess we are gonna have to fool around with the wiring ideas and see what works, nothing like good ol proddin and pokin
man eventually I'm gonna need to upgrade my electrical system soon specially when I buy another amp and my monitor and wire up the playstation...
time for another battery soon
