If you are going to buy an ibm beware, they are rated to run 8 hours a day. and if you run it over 8 hours a day it voids warantee. if they are ran over 8 hours a day they can die. i had two drives just completely stop working after leaving my computer on for about 6 days straight... Most people prefer western digital, i personaly like seagate (ahhh the silence)

that is completely untrue. you can run the hd 24/7 and not lose the warranty. they use the 8 hour/day to determine their MTBF rating. Mean (avg) Time Before Failure, usually in thousands of hours.

have you talked to ibm? i contacted them and they refused to repair my drives... i only bought them 20 or 30 days ahead of time with a 3 year warantee

i have not talked to them, but if this 8 hours thing is correct then they shouldn't even have an RMA department because i'm sure 99% of the drives they sell have been left on for more than 8 hours at a given point.
i think they were lying to you to screw you out of money. i would have them show it to you in writing or get the BBB on the phone and get them to honor their warranty.
