Ok...I'm not a huge fan of foreign films. In my younger days I all but refused to watch them...I don't prefer to read my movies. But there's a few really good flicks coming out of China, Taiwan, and Japan these days so I'll bend my rules a little. So I watched this movie called "Shaolin Soccer" last night. I had little to no knowledge of it but man did it kick ass. It's about a bunch of Shaolin kung fu masters who want to bring kung fu to the masses and decide to enter a soccer tournament. The wireworks and special effect are absolutely nuts. The subtitles were done so horribly it made it even more hilarious. This has been out in Asia for quite a while and will be opening in the states in the future in limited release. I urge you to watch the original version before it's horribly redubbed for American audiences who are too lazy to read subtitles (I know I usually am...but if it's a good movie then subtitles are the ONLY way to go...you lose so much of the effect in an overdub). It's a hilarious flick with tons of crazy mega kung fu action.

Not yet...and I'm not sure it'll show up in KC at all. Maybe at the Tivoli or some arthouse theater. I don't see it hitting AMC or Cinemark. I said screw it and just dl'ed it.

This term I was taking a class called History through film and we focused on the topics of de-colonization (sp?) so a few sub-titled movies came up. I loved pretty much every movie they showed us!
