I was at an audio shop today and saw several sub boxes with something that looked like foam/cotton type stuff inside of it. What is the purpose of this?

same reason why people put blankets in saide bass drums and duct tape in normal drums, dampens the sound and makes it sound better....i think atleast but almost 100%

Hrm, ok. Well does anyone know what it is called and/or where I could get it? (other than the shop)

goto to a fabric store and buy teddy bear/pillow stuffing, it is cottom not fibreglass, and it will run you about $5 a pound. it is used to add more volume to a box by making it more dense

the thing about that stuff is you get a lot more filling carring bass so ya it makes it loder but it soften the sound so it doesnt hit as hard my friend was thinking about puting it in his sytem but he didn't like the sound he got

it all depends on how much you put in there
