Hi I need advice with a few repairs before I sell my Civic. Its a 1997 Ex with manual transmission.

First, the transmission grinds slightly when I shift into 3rd. If I shift it slowly it won't grind. The clutch is depressed the same as for all other gears. How could I mix it and is it cheaper to swap the transmission if the repair is that nasty or expensive. (I ussually do my own work).

Second, the car was in an accident a few years ago and the body shop replaced the fan (the blower fan inside the car, that blows hot or cold air). The fan is extremely loud and I would like to replace it before I sell it, its a huge turn off from buying the car.

Thanks for the help!

if you are geting the sound when shifting only to that gear then I would think it;s like the 3rd Gear synchro...could be replaced or if you get a good deal on another tranny pick it up..

the blower motor, or mouse wheel, is normally under the passenger side of the dash held on w/ like 3 screws and it has 1 plug.. that will let you remove it and replace it...
hope this helps...

also welcome to HS...

If you want a really easy fix for the tranny (well not a fix...more like a bandaid) get GM Synchromesh trans fluid (the friction modified kind). After a week or so it should kick in and your car wont grind...as much/as often. The only real fix is going to be replacing the sychros.

the heater fan is actually located under the windshield trim on this car. (at least thats where I've fixed them at @ honda) Like where the hood hinges are, that black pos pointless plastic piece, remove it and look down on the p/s, the fan will be down there, look all day long below the dash, you'll still end up under the hood..........It probably has a piece of paper or a leaf or some stupid shit stuck in it that when the fan is turned on rubs on the object and makes a hella noise, my guess.
