up to par to what? everybody has a different definition of "up to par" means... you'll need to be more specific, maybe HP numbers or 1/4 ETs.

depends on what you want to achieve or have $$ to do....
Basic bolt on:
Intake
Headers
Exhaust
Laughing gas 25/50 shot

Big $$ mods:
Turbo kit
SC kit
Engine swap..

this might help you but letting us know what you want to do w/ your car will help...

a greddy header/exhaust setup should give you a nice deep tone...

read my signature...that's what i have in my 2002 civic ex which is the same as the 2001...i would reccomened thermal exhaust i love mine...dont worry bout a header waste of money
you can turbo it for about 3,000 no real "internals" that would help out a great deal. PM me if you want more info

what do you consider a fart can? i hate that term, people go around calling hks, apexi, and tanabe fart cans...the tone is not completely dependent upon the muffler, you have a really low displacement motor, it's going to be high pitched compared to a wrx, or pretty much anything else.

the intakes are pretty much all the same. injen, dc, aem, k&n, those are the major ones.

for a "header" i'd look at dc.

exhaust, go for a catback from a reputable company.

you're looking at probably a grand for all 3 combined.
don't forget about your suspension, get a nice coilover setup, run you at least $800, then you've got all your tie/sway/bar stuff. maybe another $500 for those. <---that's a guess, i haven't been paying attention to those prices. so after spending roughly $2500, decide whether you want to spend more or not.

btw this is all diy, you shouldn't have to pay for any labor.

lol ive heard a WRX sound like a fart can car the other day..i wanted to beat the crap outt the driver for making it sound like that :(

fart can to me=no mods..just muffler for the sound value=fart can,lol........now if there are mods you can hear it, but around here its just a bunch of mexicans or young teens running around wit fart cans on their hondas....there are an exceptional few ive seen around campus, all driven by asian guys..i love their cars,lol..sooo clean and much more thought/effort put into their rides :)

seriuosly.. don't waste your money on intakes or headers... invest in a turbo... the exhaust is the only thing you can still use if you get boosted
