Im just asking this question so all the beginers like me can have a basic idea of how to add performance to my car without having to pay big money for a super/turbo charger!

a header is probably where youre going to get the most bang for your buck
DC ones are nice and relatively cheap

you driving a dx, youre gonna need a new ex/si catalytic converter though because your cat is integrated in the header

You could also get a k&n drop in filter for a tiny bit more hp
Exaust too i guess

n2o is kinda cheap and you'll go really fast with it too (best bang for buck)

But if I were you, the first thing Id do is buy a 96-98 civic ex (d16y8) intake manifold...the one on the y7 is junk

2-4-1 header? headers with a new intake sounds good to me! but with n2o your risking blowing the engine if u dont replace your stock pistons with titanium pistons? im not sure if thats rite or not, but im here to learn more, so educate me as much as u can about this stuff:thumbsup:

nah, wait for oc civic to show up...he's our local n2o guru...he runs it on stock internals

what kind of goals do you have?

Goals... time im not to sure on because iv never had it on the track before, But i do know that theres a mr big shot that lives 5 houses down from me with a 92 5.0L mustang that needs to be reminded that the domestic days are over, and imports are in.. so thats about it for goals. thanks for the info on the intake and headers.. so what are you runing under your hood?

its called a 4-2-1 and yes its probably better, supposedly more low end power than a 4-1.

you dont need to upgrade pistons(theyre forged aluminum not tititanium) to run nitrous if you stay at around a 50hp shot on your engine.

imo i wouldnt do much to that engine, its rather weak compared to most others. maybe a 50shot of nitrous but that'd be all i'd do.

yea.. i knew that;) 4-2-1 headers with a cold air intake and a 50 shot of nos would get me up to speed untell i save up my ($5000 can) to bye a B18C engine from japan.. thats gona be a while! whats the best choice for nitrous oxide now, nx or nos?

if you want to beat a 5.0 anything you better learn a LOT

and buy a LOT, that means you get an H22, specifically the Jspec Type S.

gettin a 2001EX this wed..that 4-2-1 header..u were talkin bout for that guy cuz he had a DX to get EX stuff..what would i need to do for mine to get that put on?

AzCivic

any chance you could get a 2000 instead of a 2001?

brad_98civicDX

why, whats the big deal in the 2000, to 2001? you would think the 2001 would have a beter engine:confused: and asherk, im only converting to ex/si headers because the cat is intergrated into the header for the dx modle. your runing a ex so you shouldent have the same problem as i have, u should just be able to slide the header in! And Pdiggitydogg, u were saying to dump the Y7 intake maifold and get the D16Y8 intake put on, how much is that gona coast, and is it gona fit, or am i gona have to work with it? Thanks alot to every body whos put info into this thread, keep on posting info!

youre in a bad spot if you want go fast goodies and getting a 2k1, asher
there are very little performance mods at all for the d17...plus the pistons are like "_" that big, the intake manifold is plastic and designed to save space, etc. Its a shitty engine for speed imho
Looks kinda like the y8 was the last good d16......

Yeah, the y8 manifold will go on w/o too much trouble...just be sure to get the 96-98 one because the 99-00 are different. You could also do a head swap and slap the y8 head on you y7...that'd give you vtec, more compression, and a better flowing head overall (another person just did that on this board).
Are you interested in keeping the D16 and building it up, or are you interested in swapping it out for a Bseries...or an H22 and get involved in about a sh*t and a half load of work?

So i can make my regular D16 and make it a vtec? rite now im gona be keeping the D16 in, maby some time down the road il do an engine swap, but rite now converting a D16 sohc into a Vtec sounds like a fun idea! its gona coast for the y8 block tho! il have to think about that!

nah, you just need a y8 head...those are pretty cheap and relatively easy to find at junk yards, local speed shops trash, ebay has em sometimes, etc.
Oh, and that kind of conversion is called a "Mini-me"

brad_98civicDX
02-08-2004, 10:49 AM
haha thats awesome.. mini me. im preaty sure there was somthing like that in januarys adition of HCI mag.. but that sounds like a decent prodject. il have to keep my eye out for the Y8 head on ebay or somthing... what about buying a performance fule rail, well that boost HP?

pdiggitydogg
02-08-2004, 11:15 AM
nope...stock fuel rails are good to around 300hp at the lowest

brad_98civicDX
02-08-2004, 11:20 AM
haha ohhh well i dont think im goin over 300 HP any time soon.. were do u get most of your stuff to, stores, or sites like e bay?

I dont have a very long list of go fast parts, but I get a lot of things on ebay, modacar, etc...and I paid too much probably.
Check out www.styledright.com - prices are really good...lots of good stuff, if you dont see something that you want pm hondaman-iac
