hybrid CAI....

I was wondering what u all would reccomend for CAI's for my H22 swap in my 98 Civic hatchback. I was intially going to make my own with 3" piping from JC Whitney and buy all the other rubber pieces and stuff seperate. I was on EBAY last night and stumbled on brand new CAI intakes for 30 dollars for Preludes or for Civics. These intakes are fully complete with filters, and rubber pieces and everything. My question is it almost seems cost efficient to get a premade intake and slap a nice AEM V2 filter on it. Cuz as everyone knows most of the power is from the filter cone. Also which EBAY CAI should I get? Obviously I would have to modify any CAI that I get to fit in my car; but should I choose the one for the D16 Civic, or should I choose the H22 Prelude one. I really wanted the 3" pipping from the Prelude one cuz it would make a bit more power than the smaller D16 piped intake, but just looking at the Prelude one I dont know if I can modify it to fit in the Civic. What do u all think?

Fuk AEM bro. It's way too overpriced for me. I say make your own or just get the Ebay version. The most important part of that is the filter like you said. AEM gets their filters from K&N.

You can get your own piping from JC whitney and then a K&N filter. Or get the ebay version and replace the filter with a K&N. Peace!

you were actually going in the right direction with that D series dude, from the looks of your profile. 14's in a D is NICE.

just get the prelude short ram. CAI is bullshit. I cut mine when i bought it cause it had already put two rods through each respective previous owners block.

If you swap to the H22 then get the intake the accomodate for the H22....that is going to be te same for any other parts from here on out once you swap.

As for the CAI you can just go on egay and get the intake and get the K&N or SPW red filter as it's made the exact same way as the K&N but not as pricey. Just depends on the amount of $ you may have to spend.
Also you could try like www.thepartstrader.com and see if you might find on on there used. Good luck...

thanks man but this car is a different car. I am putting the H22 in a 98 Civic Hb. My other one is a 92 CX HB. It was just sold, but I feel that she is still mine. I bought this 98 Civic about 6 months ago and it has been sitting in my garage. I paid 400 dollars for a 90,000 mile hatchback with a blown engine that is in excellent shape everywhere else. Interior is absolutely perfect, and the body is in excellent shape with just a few paint scratches. The guy just wanted to get rid of it. It had been sitting for a while and he had no idea the potential of this car. Personally I think I got away with a steal. Anyways on your car it sounds like the previous owner wasnt too smart on driving the CAI setup through puddles. I had mine for over a year in Louisiana and almost a year in England (where it rains constantly) and I never had a problem. I am just very careful thats all. Ohh it also did make a difference in performance. about 2 to 3 tenths on the average over the short ram. Atleast on my et's anyway.
