I have a 94 honda civic si.. All of a sudden I have a high pitched metal on metal grinding noise when I back up, and when I drive it is still there a bit, but not near as bad. What can this be?

More specifics? Where is the sound coming from? Does it happen when your going slower or faster? Just a grinding noise, or is it like banging too?

I'd guess brakes. When's the last time you changed the pads?

mine do that all the time, see if the vaccum plate is a little bent on any of the brakes, could be rubbing nothing seroius though.

Are your pads worn down to the squeelers?

Chances are it's that since I had exactly the same problem with my old pads on my mazda, when I backed up they squelled like hell.
