View Full Version : The futility of politics

When I was younger someone told me a quote. It was along the lines of "Be wary of anyone involved in politics. The people who are smart enough to be in office are the ones smart enough to not get involved in politics.". I used to laugh at that thought but it's become more and more apparent that it's true. True, there are well meaning politicians out there (though they are few and far between), but they're good intentions are usually screwed up by advisors, public polls, and the like. And politics is such a moot social point. If you don't agree with someone (i.e. republican talking to a democrat) then you end up doing point counterpoint the whole time and no one's mind is changed i nthe least. If you're with like-minded people all you do is ***** and moan about the other side of the table and while you walk away feeling like you made some good points, nothing is really accomplished. We probably have the most registered political parties of any nation in the world, yet we think of ourselves as a bicameral system...seldomly relying on an independent or other candidate to fill public office. Why don't you ever see a candidate from the American Liberal Nazi Green party on TV (no, I didn't make that party up...it's real). All you see is Repub. vs. Democrat. I'm ready to give up altogether.

I don't follow politics. To me its a waste of time, nothing I want done will happen anyway.
So yea I agree with you and have given up.

So here's my new idea...ban ANYONE with an affiliation to a political party from running for ANY office. The candidates would then run solely on their ideas and talents rather than people just voting along party lines and making ridiculously stupid choices (people say there's no wrong choice when voting, but that's just not true). This would also eliminate the partisan bickering on pointless issues and would likely reduce "pork belly" spending and get useful bills passed through legislature much quicker. I can't tell you how often I've sworn at my TV because a perfectly good bill that would've done a world of good for...say...mandated background checks when releasing prisoners to check for prior warrants get shot down because a bunch of douche bags tacked on bits and pieces for special interests which then causes others to vote it down and send a perfectly good idea to the scrap heap. I'm so utterly dissolutioned by how ridiculous politics and especially politicians have become in my admittedly short lifetime alone. F@ck em all. Now it's time for the people to effect change.
