Now youre speaking my language

I very much like that idea of the type r head and stock bumper replacement

did you ever find out if the block was cracked?

i like the idea of getting rid of ricey parts and yes fix what you have if its not blown.

dont forget to buy the intake too! The GSR one wont bolt up to the ITR head. Personally I wouldnt go with the ITR head. Why?? Its the price man. Way too expensive. U can go with a turbo and get more power or if u still want all motor I suggest this..

-B16a head
-CTR cams (make more power than the ITR cams)
-DPR stage 5 or 6 port job

u definately will make much better power than a stock Type R head for about the same price after everything is said and done. Good luck.

yeah really, get a b16 head the typeR is too much money.

so whats wrong with the engine anyway??

i highly recommend changing all the other valvetrain when doing ctr cams
yes, I know you dont HAVE to...but theyre a lot more aggressive than standard b16's

the b16 and gsr heads flow almost the same...very very similar...but gsr does come out on top (something most dont know)

gsr is better in a way because of higher compression (square combustion chambers)
so if youre gonna boost...I would go b16 head because of the round chambers & lower compression

if going type r (real or ported b16), it would be cheaper (probably) to get the whole-shibang instead of building/porting a b16 head, plus it would be more reliable (oe honda=no chance for machine shop screw-ups) plus if you decided to go ctr pistons you could easier (dont fit b16 head w/o work...i believe)

good info. how about the IM's?

stock type r is MUCH better than edelbrock and venom

type r doesnt fit gsr (that said, on a gsr head...I highly doubt any other honda IM would fit a gsr head, besides gsr's original), however, skunk2 is an "exact" duplicate of the type r IM so that would be the way to go

stock to stock b16 is better flowing than gsr (again...I believe)

im lovin this , this is the kind of talk i wanna have , I want something a lil differnt and unique i found a SI bumper for 100 bucks think im gonna get it im not gonna go turbo because of this mess with fixing parts i just dont wanna deal with this any more its a pain in the ass i only had my car 3 months out of the 12 in 03 fun hells no... but im still really learning about engine stuff soo who knows whats gonna happen .... whats the diff between the GSR BLOCK from SI , TYPE R BLOCK OR B16 B18 IF U WILL???

the main difference in the blocks is just displacement, the b18's are stroked b16's.

crank size too (even between the 18b and 18c's)
piston type/style
rods

deck height on b16 is smaller than the b18

itr has standard oil cooler...but thats neither here nor there for this scenario...
gsr and irt "blocks'' are the same (including ctr) = p72 part #

I have no idea on bore # differences if any

bores are the same, cranks are whats different(thats why i said a b18 is a stroked b16.)

but if you wanna get into the non-vtec blocks there's quite a few differences between those and the vtec ones.
