both are gonna be done eventually i would get the springs first , but 15s wouldnt look that bad withoug lower but I would get the springs.

id drop it first
but do shocks and springs/coilovers at the same time

Why not just get the rims and do some springs?

I know that what Pdiggs said is true, but i have been on my stock struts for 2 years no probs (knock on wood).

I would get the rims first. Its always harder saving for more expensive things. Plus rims would make a bigger diff than lowering the car. you dont wanna lower the car and ride on stock rims thats kind of ghetto and 15s on a civic wontmake your car look like a 4wheeler. So my vot is with the rims. If your looking for a place to get them www.machiii.net has tehm for 500 free shipping.

i'd say drop it like its hot!! what's wrong with sporting the stock steelies??

even though youre concidering decently small sized wheels, think about all those non-dropped civics on 17" wheel...they look like big foot

just a thought

if i get enough ill do it all at once. plus i would do all the lowering mods at the same time. Springs, Coilovers, Shocks, ECT ECT.

but i really wouldnt mind getting the rims first. but im now debating 15 or 16 inch.

for suspension i would go with koni yellows and ground control coilovers or some goldline springs. put a skunk2 camber kit for the front and the energy suspension poly bushink kit for the front, throw in some neuspeed upper strut bars and you got a handling machine there.

for the wheels get 15" but if you will get 16" get something that's really light.

Between 15's and 16's I personally would go with 15's. 16's look like they would be the sweet spot in size on my CRX and probably your civic, but it seems like tires for 16's are outrageously priced. That's just what you have to think about in the long run because if your tires get worn out and you can't afford the new ones you have to go back to the steelies. But if money is no object, which I'm sure it is  , then 16's would most likely look much better.

im will go with 15" Bronze Slipstreams.

but what about the rear strut bar. go with neuspeed agian.

I wouldn't really worry about strut bars and what not...

I have a completly stock suspension with 170+k mi. on it... it handles like a dream... the only thing I'd suggest is doing a master kit to replace all the bushings...

The stock civic springs/struts are a pretty nice setup from the factory... put some wider tires on there and it handles great...

IMO coilovers are more of a cosmetic item in most cases...

Most people drop them so low it destroys the susp. geometry... not to mention the fact that most get just springs and keep their stock struts which just can't perform properly on aftermarket lowering springs...

If you want good drop springs... I recomend Eibach Pro-kit (and prokit ONLY) springs... Every car I've been in with sportlines or any linear rate spring... it's just too bouncy... even with good struts... the progressive springs allow for both performance coils and comfort coils... that way your car performs no matter what the situation... instead of just on a track...

Most people don't like the pro-kit's because they do not "drop it enough"... well they don't drop it "enough" because any more would be TOO MUCH... the geometry goes to hell and aligning the car without aftermarket items becomes impossible...

But again... I say stick with the stock susp. it's great.

With just the master kit in my car it holds tight in corners and doesn't have much if any sway... changing the front sway bar bushings would probobly eliminate just about all remaining sway...

Alot of these aftermarket strut bars and sway bars are just silly... it's bracing you don't really need unless you are REALLY pushing the limits of your car on a regular basis.

In short... go for the wheels...

but imo rota wheels are just about as common as stock... I'd look for something different if I were you.

i looked thru all mu eibach lierature and they claim the sportlines are the same construction as the pro-kits, which are progressive. i had the prokits on my car before and they sucked major ass.

You need to know how to drive on a car with progressive springs...

they feel like they're all sloppy till you load them up...

they are apparently both progressive... but I've been in a couple cars with sportlines... and they were all bouncy and crappy...

I think the rates are just higher in the sportlines... the pro-kits just have more sedate rates on the lower end...

I had them (prokits) in my sentra and they kicked ass... my buddy with sportlines (bought them after driving in my car) was SOOO pissed when he found out I had the pro-kits not the sportlines...

He ordered them trying to get the same springs as mine... and he ended up getting the sportlines... they SUCKED... he hated them... I drove it once or twice and they weren't as nice riding as mine...

well i dunno what to say. i am using the ground controls coilovers now that use the ebach ers (aparently progressive springs too) and i love the way they ride.

IALuder
12-17-2003, 08:59 AM
i guess its all in how you like the bounce of your ride. some like a firm nice ride. some like a little more cusion bounce when hitting a pot hole. personal choice/decision.

back to rims im trying to get more ideas. what color in 5-6 spoke Bronze black or white? i drive a 2dr black. plus who make good light weight rims for a decent price? need ideas

i dont want performace mods. i want my ride to look good. dont ask why. lowering and rims are the last thing really on my list that are major look differences. i got a 98Si spoiler red clear tails and clear corners.

the last 4 things i need to do: Tint windows, Lower, Rims, and new front bumper. which would you do first?

depends on how much tire tread u have left. If your tire tread is wearing thin, and almost worn out, them I would say go with the rims and tire combo. If your tires are in good shape then like lots of other people have said, go with the suspension! Personally I wouldnt go ground control setups. They cant compete with a good true coilover (like TEIN and H&R coilovers). Sure u might pay a little bit extra but they are well worth it.

If you look at the springs you should be able to tell if they're progressive or not...

there should be coils that are closer together and coils that are further apart.

If the coils are all evenly spaced then they're NOT progressive rated...

the springs they have pictured under their "prokit" section of their site are NOT pro-kit springs... they're linear rate...

I was VERY sure that the sportlines as well as ALL springs they sold for use on GC's are linear rate springs...

I could be wrong... I'm going to email them to find out for sure.

thanks, for the advice.

i probably have 4k miles left on my tires.

anyone got a review on their set ups?

who has what set up too?

hmm my gc's seem to be progressive. i know the pro-kits were, at least the rears.

so would guys buy Eibach?

12-19-2003, 10:50 AM
i would. i am sure the crappy ride was because of the kyb agx's

IALuder
12-19-2003, 11:40 AM
so kyb is crappy?

what about tokico springs and struts. anyone dislike these if so why?

pdiggitydogg
12-19-2003, 12:25 PM
like i said in the post on suspension

my tokico's lasted under 6months and blew...this was on normal daily driving, on the medium setting. They wanted ME to pay for shipping to have them rebuilt and they were going to charge me an additional $200 to have it done...F*** TOKICO

Koni yellows=lifetime warranty...thats all I have to say

IALuder
12-20-2003, 10:51 PM
so which are top of the line? Koni. can someone put them in best to worse order? sorry just making sure i get the best deal. dont want to waste my money on crappy products.

pdiggitydogg
12-20-2003, 11:05 PM
koni isnt the best...there are many that are better
but koni yellows are like top of the line for their league
no one ever complains about them

but...here's what i think (granted this is opinion of the tops)
koni yellows
kyb agx
tokico illuminas (though IMO theyre below everything...even stock)

then the non-adjustables

Honda_Tengoku
12-21-2003, 11:20 AM
if u want a spring and shock combo. Then H & R springs or Eibach makes good quality springs. As far as the shock goes, yes the Koni yellows are lifetime warranty and I never had a problem with them ever blowing out or anything like that, and I drive on them very very hard. I heard KYB AGX were good for the price, just dont lower your car more than 1.5 inches (they even tell u this) with your car or they will blow eventually.

I personally believe a good true coilover is the way to go. Might as well do it right. But then again thats my opinion, and with the price of coilovers for Civics (quite cheap) they are not much more than a shock and spring combo. I payed about 850 dollars for my Eibach prokit, with Koni Yellows about a year and a half ago, and now u can get a good coilover for about 1100. So u be the judge.

pdiggitydogg
12-21-2003, 11:25 AM
yeah but how often are you going to go through the hassle of changing the ride height
(and yes its a pain in the ass)

and then after you do it you need another alignment
(another pain in the ass)

just voicing my opinion

ebpda9
12-21-2003, 11:34 AM
it takes me 20 minutes to go from all the way up to all the way down on all 4 corners, and it doesn't seem to be a pain in the ass. get a lifetime alignamet from firestone for $140 and don't worry about it.

so heres what im thinking of buying: Koni Yellows, KYB AGXs.

you can put Coilovers with shocks and spring right? or would this make no sense to do except for looks?

what about strut bars? now i have heard of sway bars. are they the same as Strut bars? becuase i do believe they are..im just not sure. if so i was planning on either Neuspeed or Trust.

strut bars stiffen the chassis by connecting one shock tower to another helping the car plant the tires. The anti-sway bars directly bolt on to the lower control arms. They use the lower control arm pressures against each other to prevent the car from swaying or leaning.

check out the Carbing strut bars at www.passwordjdm.com. They are awesome!!!! They are the best made strut bars I have ever seen!

well it depends on which setup you choose. some come as colover sleeves ( ground control, skunk2, aerospeed, dropzone etc) and require shocks (stock ones can be used). I have the ground control and koni yellow combo, pretty sweet riding, nice handling, a bit cheaper than a full coilover setup.

then there are the full coilover setups like koni, teins, jic majic etc that have the body of the shock threaded and they come with matched springs and struts. these coilovers tend to work better but the previous setup i mentioned can very very good if you choose the parts carefully and good quality.

also coilovers can be just a cosmetic mod or a performance and cosmetic one ( let's face it a dropped car looks damn p!mp;)), it just depends on how much money you want to invest in suspension. it's all you that calls what you want your suspension to do. i had the car slammed ~3" on my setup and raised to almost stock. it performs the same, just the later one tends to have a bit more body lean.

as for the swaybars and strut bars: no they are not the same. as the guy before me mentioned it the strut bars tend to keep the strut towers equally spaced during hard cornering, and the sway bars apply pressure on the control arms to preven the car from leaning in hard cornering. both are great suspension mods when the road is in good condition, but when you are in a limited traction environment you'd better be carefull, or it can end up in a disaster.

Yeah the neuspeed strut bars are the best IMO ( for the money at least), i do not have any experience with trust (greddy) but they are kinda full of it. for sway bard i'd use the suspension techniques rear sway bar only and use polyurethane bushing polyurethane end links for the front swaybar.

let me know or get on aim if you have anymore questions.
