why will a obd1 not work with a obd2?

Different emmisions controls and sensor locations and such.

Im sure there is much more than ^ as well.

basically thats the gist of it

it can work but the wiring is just a pain in the ass

still having issues eh? might wanna swing by hondaswap

if you mean an obd1 motor with an obd2 ecu it will work EASILY... all you need is an o2 simulator on the second o2 sensor..

side note.. i would not use your ex ecu with any twin cam

Why?

The most popular ecu to chip and use with a swap is a p28 which is the obd1 ex ecu...

Or do you just mean HIS ex ecu?

i would not "chip" any ecu.. as i think that "chiping" and ecu is silly.. the only thing i would consider along those lines is hondata.. but if you mean most popular to swap in? its probably because they are inexpensive AND obd1 which is better for tuning.. but he has a 99 ex.. which is obd2 and just generaly crappy.. i would not put a single cam ecu on a twin cam without the ability to modify fuel flow (through some type of piggyback) IF i ever swap ecus it would ONLY be to achieve obd1..ouside of that id just use the right ecu for the right motor..

The "best" hondata computer for swaps is the p28 "chipped"... with an eeprom so it can be re-programed easily. and with data logging built into it (it's actually there from the factory they just run the wires and wrote the com. software).

If you run a "kenji" programmed chip in a p28 it runs just about ANY b series swap WAY WAY better than the stock integra computer would...

SOHC or DOHC has NO bearing on computer capabilities... there aren't any extra functions for 2 cams...

The mod over at H-T has a gutted cx with a "chipped" p28 ecu running a usdm b18c5 that ran a 13.9.

Ideally if you want a hondata you want a p28 for them to chip...

im pretty sure the fuel and ignition map on a b18c5 is differant than a d16y7

It'll be pointless to convert from an OBD1 to an OBD2, in my opinion... shiet, I dont even think that anybody makes a conversion harness for it.

actually, I think boomslang makes that reverse harness (custom, but they do list it)

really? i bought my harness from them. they make great products!

fuel and igntion maps are stored in the "chip"...

BoomSlang - thats where i got my harness from too!
$75 shipped brand spankin new for a quality product like that was a steal (even though it cost more than the ecu)

which is not in the ecu?

point being if you put a d16y7 ecu into a car with a b18c5 motor (providing the obd capadability was currect) it would not run as well without changing the ecu (or chip) to acomidate the new motor, getting back to my whole the ecus issued with twin cams ARE in fact differant...

The ecu isn't the chip... there would be no "changing the ecu" there would be re-chipping of your ecu... which is all hondata is...

A "chipped" ecu.

The ONLY ecu that hondata provides if you want one from them is a p28... or SOHC ecu.

And again... the differences between ecu's has NOTHING to do with the number of cams they have...

I'm not trying to be a jerk... but the EASIEST and BEST way to run a b18c5 in your car is to use the p28 and a chip... a sohc computer.

this is going nowhere.. lol i said i would not use his STOCK single cam ecu with a twin cam.. that is a FACTUAL statement and i stand by it

A hondata is a chiped STOCK ecu. If you buy the whole ecu/chipping service from them NO MATTER WHAT ENGINE YOU HAVE.... they send you a p28 ecu... it's the sohc d16z6 computer.

A chip isn't a piggyback. And if you get a "kenji" program and are running a gsr or type r it will run like a champ forever without ANY ability to change the maps. There are other programs which will run other motors better in a p28 than the stock computer for that engine will run it.

I'm not trying to be a dick... just trying to let you know you're contradicting yourself...

due to hondatas ability to be changed easily i never really viewed it as a "chip"... when i say "chip" i mean like.. "ebay SPOOM "performance" chip" not hondata which is NORMALY tuned for a specific setup
