for some reason, it seems liek i have ****ed up my exhaust terribly. it rattles troughout hte hwole powerband following hte swap. I dont understand, i even had my HUGE dad tighten my exhaust bolts ultra tight on the cat. What else could it be ? i basically unhooked a lot to get to the shift linkage, and didnt put all the hookups to the car back on. that my problem ? also, would a bent heat shield do that ? it sounds like its falling off.

buy a new exhaust shave.
check to make sure all the hangers are in properly like az said, then make sure your heatshield isnt rattling, it it is, then thats ur problem.

you should be able to shake the exhaust from underneith it and locate where it's banging...
Then try using a prybar to get it to sit in a position that doesn't make it bang... usually you'll have to bend a hanger or two or lossen all the connection points... then re-align it and tighten them from front to back...
But like has been mentioned... If you didn't re-install all the hangers.. YES that will cause it to vibrate much more than it should.

on my brother's teg it rattles like that because it hits the rear swaybar, just because the car sits so low.

yeah, my exhaust hits the swaybar too, and its not even lowered. but yeah it could be a combination of missing hangers, heatshield rattle, toasted cat, and poor engineering of the piping itself. I personally went to hobby lobby and bought a big bag of leather scraps, and wrapped them around the problem areas (secured with big hose clamps). it helps immensely.

Does your shifter shake too? nonov beat me to it. Shake it and see where it's coming from. The engine doesnt have to be running.....

well my shifter does move, but only because my rear motor mount is bolted up. imma fix that today. that mount is an asshole.
