Resume Writing

Well, I was cruising around the internet earlier today and found this internship that I want to apply for. The only downside is that like every internship that I've run across, they want a resume. So I pulled up my resume on the computer. I was reading over it and it's a bit out of date but more importantly the thing kinda sucks, in my opinion.

So I was wondering if anyone has any tips that have helped their resume look good, or know of any websites that you've found to be helpful. My school has a department where they will help you with your resume, but I was hoping to get the thing done by the end of the weekend.

There's a ton of sites out there with resume writing help, I'd try a search.

Simple tips....use "power language" to get the point across in fewer words. Stick to highlights and don't go deep into details. The resume is basically a tiny abstract of your skills, you don't want it to tell all the details. If they're interested in an aspect, they'll ask, and that's where you get the chance to providde the juice (in an interview, of course).

Stick with similar word choices. A bad example:

* Worked with xyz software
* Have experience with yadda yadda yadda

Better example:
* Worked with xyz software
* Experienced with yadda yadda yadda

Slight difference, but it reads more easily when all the bullets in a section start similarly using the same type of word and the same tense, etc.....so it's not the best example, and there's better ways of saying it than I did anyways, but you get the point.

Keep it neat. No spelling mistakes. There isn't a need to complete sentences. Keep it to 1 page.

Maybe think about writing a cover letter.
