Currently own a 99' Civic coupe, VTi-R.

Would like to know what performance mods to increase its hp other than turbo since i have budget restrictions.

I dont know much about these things so id like to know the types of air filter's, size of mufflers, etc. thatd give my civic the most hp ???

Thanx alot guys, really appreciate it.

I think it's an SI cause I think the VTi is a hatch w/B16.

yeah its a b16...its us si equiv.

what is your budget? Id say some ctr pistons and intake cam, 2.25/2.5" exhaust (look at the #1 post to read reviews), short ram intake/J's intake with a good filter (stick w/ name brands...none of that ebay crap), and a good/decent 421 header

that'd be a good na setup imo

search the forum and you'll find more answers to questions that you probably have

nitrous is hands down the best hp per dollar mod you can do. if u want fast for cheap- do nitrous, and if u use it properly it will be safe too.

and fun. Real fun. Mad torque, and very intimidating to ricers.

in the long run nitrous gets to be real expensive....i mean "horsepower-to-dollar" it can't get any better than that, but if you use it quite often then be prepared to pay up for it to be refilled...this is the reason that i'm in favor of turbocharging...

for sake of ease you're right...

but a junkyard turbo could be put together for less and probobly end up with more power... not to mention it's CONSTANTLY there... no refilling.

in my opinion, nitrous (bolt on modifications) should be left for AFTER heavy modification. nitrous works by oxodizing gas, creating more powerful explosions within each chamber. with this in mind, not every setup can handle nitrous oxide without running into problems. Since there is budget talks, i reccomend also getting bigger (rebored) pistons or a turbocharger. hands down less wiring and less hassle. i usually reccomend reinforcing your engine a bit before you throw nitrous into the equation...

Dude... WTF are you talking about???

Re-bored pistons??? wanna explain that one.

You recomend turboing a car before it gets nitrous???

Why is there less wiring hassle if you turbocharge your car or get "rebored pistons"... WTF...

Is this a joke post or something?

(sets password protection on computer)

Sorry.

Anyways, the real ME would agree that nitrous oxide while not always the most effective, is the most inexpensive alternative to horsepower-on-the-go.

however, nitrous can only offer an increase in efficiency TEMPORARILY, as opposed to turbochargers which, well, are always working.

That's pretty broad. If you want some stuff to do yourself, you can go with basic bolt-on mods. Throttle body, intake manifold, header, exhaust, and intake are considered bolt-ons. You could also put nitrous on yourself if you are a hands-on type of person. Nitrous kits are cheap compared to other forms of FI (yes, nitrous is forced induction.) If you're planning on paying someone to do stuff, but don't want a turbo or supercharger, you can go with a set of cams, which you usually need to upgrade your valvetrain (valve springs, retainers), you can get a set of higher compression pistons also. You can bore the block over and port and polish the head. You can stroke your engine (pretty expensive though), and you can also upgrade clutch and flywheel which will increase performance. You can invest in a nice set of springs for performance in the twisties. You can invest in some sticky tires, too. Hope that helps a little in your decision.
