Hi,

The problem is that I'm unable to access the internet. Everything was fine yesterday, and this morning it was dead.

I didnt install anything in particular.
I dont have any virus/trojan horses/worms/malware/etc..

When I enter a proxy in the Connection settings, the net works (IE, streaming media)! Outlook, ftp & direct connect do not work. And KAZAA works with OR without the proxy enabled..

A few days ago I downloaded the Speed Guide TCPOptimizer and I've switching between the "current settings" and "Optimal settings", regardless of that everything was fine for till today.. I didnt play with the individual settings..

Any suggestions?

thanks,
JP

Hrm... :hmmm: Are you connected directly to the net (or through a router), or are you using another gateway machine?

I find it odd that you would go to bed and have it stop working, which makes me think it might not be your fault. Have you called the ISP? I'm wondering if its a setup problem on their end.

I am behind a router.. However the other PC on the LAN is working fine.. I doubt its on the ISP's end since the other PC is fine..

Is there a way to flash all the internet settings or bring them back to the default settings?? Not just the reset buttong on the Advanced tab in IE options.. tried that one already..

I don't know of a way to do that unless you do a system restore (I think that would do it). Yeah, obviously not the ISP then.

Do you have some more info on the optimizer you used? I doubt that's a problem since you've been using it though.

If I was having the problem, I'd start by looking at all of the network settings. Make sure DHCP is on (assuming you use it), privacy setting are set to let all traffic through, router settings are normal. I know its a pain though. Maybe someone else will have some suggestions.

THe optimizer is the one from Sped Guide (speedguide.net), but like you said, its probably not causing the prob..

Anyways I'll keep going for a while..

thanks for the suggestions!

Glad to hear it JP! That makes me think that program did somehow affect it because it modifies the stack settings. Strange either way, but at least it works now.

my guess is that the proxy made a poo. it happened on my laptop befeore. i just set the connection thru a lan, not thru a proxy. Also if kazaa worked fine i don't think the problem was the tcp/ip. i think it was more of a binding issue. :o

Hmm.... I'm not sure. Don't mess with TCP/IP if your other browser works.

Look in your spyware program and see if it has an undo function.

Reinstall Windows

Stef, when you cleaned the spyware out of your computer, did you quarantine it or completely delete it??

Most progs quarantine the files.. So you'd only need to restore..

How about a windows repair??
