Ok so i'ma ***** for a little bit....our music industry sucks, not to mention the fact that the music being released sucks. Like for example while I type this the Chingy (sp?(I don't even have enough respect for this guy to look over at the tv and find out how to spell his name)) Right Thur song is on, and it's terrible, or for example, JA rule, how many of the same songs does he have to release. They are all the ****ing same. It seems to me it's the same old regurgated shit all over again. Ya know now that I think of it. I think it's just hip hop that I have a problem with. I used to love it, but it just seems all like shit now. I dno't get it. oh well.....it just seems like they (being the record companies) will give any person a record contract, providing they have to rap shitty. I don't even like the white stripes. Oh fancy that....their video just came on also. GARBAGE!!! Give me some good music, with a beat, a backbone, and some talent. I've just had it. GARBAGE!!!

most of the songs are all the same from murder inc...thats why they suck
...I like chingy's honidae inn...
I'll agree again with you about the music really just sucking for the past few months...I mean I heard a song that was about jeans...JEANS! wtf...and no it wasnt a country song
thats why I stick to the old stuff thats been out for awhile...cant beat it. Once in a while I'll find a good remix...but thats few and far between

the music industry sucks... i completly agree there. its all about money and fame now. find a band that dosnt give a shit about any of that, and plays because they love to. they are the ones that can release 8+ awsome albums with all good songs, opposed to the recent trend of getting an album out asap and having one or maybe 2 songs that people like on it.

Yeah Derek, I agree. I used to like listening to some rap, but most everything released today isn't worth a dime.

dudes, say what u want but hip hop is boring, it never changes, with the exception of a few artists.
Now with that said, i must say a litlte thing that may be controversial. But, Love em or hate em, the new Limp Bizkit cd is ****ing awesome. It can relate to anyone, and if you guys have seen how hard Fred Durst is on himselff, and others, on trying to make the album perfect for himself and fans then youwould know....plus he supports p2p sharing.

I listen to limp...they are good.
It's just....ARGHH...I'm so frusterated with today's music. Even the people who like it still says it sucks...It's boring...there's nothing to it...I WISH....i could make it famous and do something about it.

This isn't anything new...
"popular" music sucks... you can't listen to the radio or watch music video's to get any kind of decent music... every once and a while someone does something different and it's cool for a little bit... but good bands are few and far between...
As far as all of ja rule's music sounding alike... well that's kinda how it is with all bands... VERY few change THAT much... There aren't too many bands who you can't tell it's them from one album to another...
I've hated music for a LONG time now... there's NO decent music out there... you just have to dig through all the crap to get to a couple of good bands.

Well, I think some of you in the end tend to over-analyze music. Do you have to go in depth with everything and say I ALWAYS WANT THE ORIGINAL AND THE BEST!!! Are you guys yourselfs so sick of your BORING and ROUTINE schedules that you have to take it out on other things or something? Having said that I agree with you that things have slowed down recently. Older rap for example is better. I still like the beat of the new Obie Trice album and I listen to it. Do the songs last as long in my mind as really good as older rap once again? No, they're just "too" catchy if you catch my drift. Radio though does suck, I once heard them play the same song back to back literally (with exception of a 1-2 min break in between), wtf? That's why I'm also starting to listen to rock like Linkin Park and Nickelback, 3 doors down, Seether etc. I don't know why you hate White Stripes, that song is amazing. Stop harping on everything. oh and just to put something into perspective, if the RIAA came up to you and said, "here's 1 mil, record something," I'm sure you wouldn't say, "oh I'm sorry I don't support the RIAA and I don't wnat that 1 mil, I can't come up with all original stuff." You grab it like a Vin Diesel on fire.

That's true of rap. Rap and hip hop are two totally different things. MTV shows rap. Hip hop is artists like Blackalicious, MC Paul Barman, Latryx, the X-ecutioners, etc. NOT what you see on MTV. Listen to some of those artists and tell me nothing's changed. I'm not a huge fan of the culture but I can get into some of the groups. But f@ck rap...it's all a bunch of guys with small dicks bolstering their egos talking about about killing (bet they've never even held a gun) and how much cash they have. MTV has turned into BET and I have to choke back the bile everytime I see that f@cking channel. We need a plan to overthrow them with as much carnage as possible.
As for the new LB...haven't heard anything but the new single but I kinda like it. I've HATED every single one of their albums with the exception of the first one until now. I saw that diary thing Fred Durst did...he seemed a little insincere but as long as the album is good I could care less. Have to hear more of it. Although covering the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" = a good start.
This unoriginal crap isn't restricted to rap though. Listen to the White Stripes and tell me it's not the most unimaginative uninspired piece of shit music you've ever heard. It sounds exactly like The Vines, The Hives, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc. etc. I'm just so thankful that we're at a point where you don't need talent to make music again...it hasn't been this aweful since the early 90's when grunge hit. Difference is that grunge produced a few good bands. Take, for example, that Hot Hot Heat song "Bandages". I seriously hope they're paying Elvis Costello royalties for totally ripping off his style. If they were both rappers they'd be trying to kill each other cuz their bitting his style. I think these people are all a bunch of demons sent to lower the standard. Kids have been tricked by DJs into thinking this shit's got any sort of style or talent when all it's really doing is teaching you to expect less from musical groups. I mean...hell...I've made recordings in bathrooms on a 4 track that had better production value than anything the White Stripes have ever done. They're actually PAYING an engineer to sound like shit. What a bunch of crap...f*ck all of those artists for lowering the standard and f*ck the RIAA for encouraging labels to pick this crap up.
Edit: Juvenile...if you think bands like Linkin Park, Nickelback, or Seether are original I'd like to introduce you to the three dozen bands waiting behind them to take their places respectively, most of which who could do it better. Nickelback especially...they've started their own label full of bands who sound just like them.:pukey:

See say what you want, but you cant just listen to Limp's songs you have to analyze them to understand them, which is what Durst wants you to do. I have liked every CD they have had out especially 3 dollar bill y'all. But this one is awesome, they are original. They are the only band that can have acoustic, hip hop, rock, metal, rap, raprock, etc.. all into one band. Thats why i like em.

i absolutely detest rap and hip-hop. I love rock more than anything. If you want some good bands who don't follow the trends set by mtv try, Dry Cell, Goo Goo Dolls, Deftones, Static-X, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and Linkin Park (if you actually read their lyrics they're pretty deep) also i love that new remix of the boys of summer by The Ataris

Never really said they were original did I? I hope not since that's not what I meant to say. All I said was I like their music. If I like it why do I have to say it's shit? Maybe some underground artist did great the style first, so I'll go and download him also, but I actually LIKE Nickelback's songs. Period.

no no alot of BANDS change...but rap doesnt..the probability of a rapper releasing a 2nd CD (when you realy like the 1st one) and you likeing it is high...why..because it's all the same....same crap different beat...how many hoes you have, how pimp you are, player or not,how many guns you have, how many stupid ass words i can make up so that i can complete a verse with everything rhyming.......
country is all the same too....allmost all country is sappy lovy dovy pointless crap.....in country (wich i hate) i give respect to travis tritt because he's a little different.....
in rap i like DMX and Ludacris.....because there slightly different than most...DMX has liek a poetry to his music unlike the rest talkin about slappin asses and drinkin expensive nasty ass alcohol
i'm biased because i'm a metalhead/hardcore/death freak.....but in all 3 of those there is some meaning or point to the song....(usualy except death metal..wich is kinda like a horror movie put to music)
not a big punk (old school true punk not sappy crap new shit) fan but it has a meaning usualy....and most punk bands play because they want to...fuk take the misfits....not a big fan (although i go as oftyen as possible to the shows because i like the doods in the band and the shows are fun as hell)they arent huge..not played on the radio yet they have like 50 million records out because they dont care what everyone else likes or thinks
when a rapper picks up a guitar and SINGS a song......then i'll have a respect for rap....but for now...when a little kid can get a record deal.....kinda proves that you dont need a whole lot of talent to be a rapper.....practice with a band for 8 years and never get signed then tell me that rap is a real form of music....make a few rhymes and put some computer generated beats to it and you can be signed in a day.......
sc0rch
10-02-2003, 01:59 AM
also i'd like to add that fred durst is ran by his manager and does what he says......he bashed jon davis and has talke more shit about people that have helped him than you could put in a corn silo......he's a sissy fuk that doesnt deserve a record deal...arrogant prick......but i do like the new song i her...eat you alive i think....starting to sound like the 1st CD wich wasnt mainstrams as all hell like the rest......not that mainstream is all bad....musicians need $ too.....shit if i was in a band i'd like some extra $ for releasing a single to be played on the radio.....but then someone will also say i was a fake poser ass wanker......and i would say "jealous?" they gotta feed there kids too......
metal bands to check out...chimaira,killswitch,lamb of god, raging speedhorn, sworn enemy, meshuggah, shadows fall, pig destroyer, goat whore, blah blah......the list goes on.......turn off the radio and go buy CD's by bands you never herd of...or buy samplers out the ass and pick bands you like from them then go buy those band's CDs........

You are so right, Practically everyone lacks the time and the talent to make good music anymore theryre not trying they just want MONEY they want FAME they dont care what their music sounds like its not the important part the videos and the parties and the pictures thats what they want. And my dad he's into radio was just talking the other day about how radio is being mc donaldized, because all these big hot shots are buying all the radio stations and turning them into a fast food chain by the way they are so unoriginal everything they do is usually prerecorded bull****
Well, with rap being unoriginal, I would have to agree half way. They get signed because they have a different style that will get them noticed above everyone else. The trouble is when they go in to record their sophmore albumn they still have that style that got them where they are now in the studio and the result is something very similar to what was on the previous albumn. I'm not a big rap person so I'm sure there are some flaws in my argument, so feel free to correct me where I may have gone wrong here.
As far as the white stripes, I would say that they are pretty unimpressive. What got them their fame was the raw and low quality sound on their albumns. People like it because it makes them feel like they are in the 60's when there weren't all the nice studio aids to make the music sound good regardless of how much it sucks. I don't think the white stripes are bad in like one or two song bursts but it gets monotonous after a bit.
Then Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park don't really get any respect from me. Limp Bizkit has just always seemed sloppy in their delivery. I prefer bands like (hed)pe and Reveille over Limp. The music just seems tighter. And as far as Linkin Park, they were assembled in the same fashion that N' Synk (sp?) was assembled. Granted there are a couple of their songs that I think are cool, it just seems embarassing that a studio would put together a rap/metal boy band.
Black Del Sol, if you want music with a strong beat and backbone, I would say to look into Quarashi, Kottonmouth Kings, or (hed)pe. Or if you want something different than that my two favorite bands are Jimmies Chicken Shack and Type O Negative. They are totally different bands but I enjoy them a lot

Chris...I think you need some music that deminishes your criminal impulses, not magnifies them. Chimaira's ok as is Meshuggah...Killswitch, I'm not a fan. Same goes for Shadows Fall and Lame of God. Sounds like someone's got digital cable and has been watching too much of the metal channel. Metal's great...in moderate doses. Once you get into bands with animal names in the band name you know it's gone too far (i.e. Pig Destroyer, Goat Whore). I'm not totally sure I agree with you on the whole thing about metal songs have a point. A lot of them (and by that I mean the majority) are projectionism. Nobody in a metal song will ever take responsibility for anything...they're always pissed off at someone or something and blame them for everything. But then again I suppose they're hitting their demographic.

Kottonmouth Kings is just stoner rap for white suburban kids and quarashi is VERY reminiscent of a beat heavier version of the Beastie Boys...but at least they're kinda cool.

To what scorch said....
A. Rap... liking the second album...
I have almost NEVER heard a second album by a rap artist... snoop's second sucked... same with dre... outkast their second was MUCH more evolved... I liked it but by the 3rd they had changed again sooo much that I didn't really like them anymore..
B. Old punk... The misfits don't really even exist anymore... the band tours but Glen Danzig is the real lead singer... maybe they got back together and I missed it... But in general punk (especially bands album to album) is REDICULOUSLY similar... you can identify a punk song as punk WAY before you can identify most rap songs as gansta or hiphop or whatever...
My favorite band (bad religion) is punk rock and they don't chang much album to album... if you listen to the first then the last there's some change but it's still VERY similar. But they're GREAT... and it takes a LONG time to get old...
Same goes for Murphy's Law (another personal fav... talk about not getting big...), Pink Floyd... Most GOOD music is the same album to album... Metallica (till they changed). etc etc.
I think rap is WAY more progressive as a music then any other...
Listen to sugar hill gang and the run-dmc... then Public Enemy... then Tribe Called Quest.. then Dre... then snoop... then... You see where I'm going... it's evolved VERY fast over not too long... and Sure if you look at EVERY band that's played you won't think it's individual or very progressive but when you take into consideration that it changes in leaps (one artist comes out with a whole new style) then everyone copies or is influenced by it and ALL rap changes from there on out... That's what I like about rap soo much... the more you listen to the more it makes sense... there are references 12 levels deep in most songs... it's pretty cool... Almost all songs are influenced by almost all others and it grows and changes CONSTANTLY as a whole...
If you ask me Rap is the only true evolving form of music... sure other genres change and develop but no where near the level of rap...

I don't know about that. I have heard some pretty decent second albums. I know I am going to get bashed for this but I think Eminem got better and better the more he released. And some of his songs are deep too. They actually kept me away from alot of trouble during some of the hard times in my life.
Also think of Pac, Puff Daddy etc. Pac especially. He had amazing albums after his frist one. Puffy had some good back when BIG was alive, and mase was kicking it, then he kind of went down hill, and now I like some of his stuff again. Not saying he's all hot shit, but some of his songs are pretty nice to listen to. More hip hopish but whatever.
Other than that though, nice post. I do agree with you. Lots of references to other people.

I think the problem with rap/hip hop on that is mainstream is what they rap about. fans have stopped caring what kind of cars they drive, how big their rims are, ect ect. and the fact that the radio kills the songs by over-playing them so much. I like the sound of a lot of the new rappers' voices and their beats, but I can't stand listening to them much anymore since they're over-played and they have stupid lyrics.
I'm a big fan of Outkast and Missy Elliot (they're probably 2 of my favorites in general) because they're always changing up their sounds. Every single one of their songs, sounds nothing like the previous. Which is the same reason why I'm still a big fan of Madonna and Aerosmith. They're all inovative.
But yah, I've stopped listening to the radio except basically for the classic rock station...going back to my roots.

You obviously want someone to listen if your first post on an internet message board is a bunch of shit about depression and killing yourself. As for DBC...there's better stuff out there. DBC is a much more pussified version of many better bands that can be heard.
