need some serious opinions!

I've got a bad rod. Its about to go, need too....
1) Get engine rebuilt
2) Buy a replacement/rebuilt engine of the same kind
3) Buy a Civic Type R JMD spec engine
These are my options as I see it.

Before anyone starts talking about engine swaps, STOP!! I need to do this on a budget, and I want to be able to use exsisting mods.

I'm looking for some good advice on each of my options, Thanks!

take this problem as a blessing and replace the rods/pistons w/ aftermarkets and you'll be ready for +300hp(with turbo obviously)

so for about 1500$ total (includes labor so even cheaper if you do it yourself)you'll have basically a new engine that can with stand a good deal of boost.

I do take this problem as a blessing, seeing how I do have/an had planned on installing a JSC. So rebuilding is the best idea?, Thanks. Any suggestions on which aftermarket comp. to go with, maybe even a rough estimate on prices.

Yes, I already have the JRSC, but it has not yet been installed.

personally, i say sell the jrsc and get a turbo with the money you make from it

hmmm well since you already have it, either sell it and get a turbo kit or better yet go ahead and rebuild the engine, put on the supercharger then when funds are available put on a turbo too.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry, no turbo for me. The supercharger will be plenty... for now, maybe in the future if this engine holds up. Remember, I'm working on a budget. If I end up loosing this engine, then I'll think about it.

Can I get some ideas on what type/make of rods and pistons to use? What would be the best set up for my ride?

since you're just running a JRSC you could actually just use OEM components, a step up from that would be Eagle rods and SRP pistons.

Yeh? Whats with Turbo/SC combo?? That can't be what you meant, is it?

yes! thats what i mean! just run the supercharger till you have enough for the turbo, then add on the turbo. resulting in good low end power and less turbo lag from the supercharger and lots of top end from the turbo. its the best of both worlds! granted you'll need to do some good tuning and have a standalone ecu w/ larger injectors. just something to think about.

well sorry to say but with a turbo/sc combo one will cancell out the other. youll either end up with a sc or turbo in your run. most of the time the sc wins and you never feel your turbo kick in(becuase it doesnt).

most people just deal with a little lag from a well thought out turbo setup, and make all the power they want.

OK, SC/Turbo combo, I hear you. I'll keep that in consideration. Sorry I haven't responded sooner, its been a bad week! I blew my rod, spent the last week with my mech looking at different options for this problem.
First; we were going to go with a JDM Civic Type R motor swap, including trans, ECU, and front suspention. That turned out to be a bad idea. More money would be needed in the long run to make it all work properly. So scratch that.
We decided that a complete rebuild was in order- not just a typical rebuild- a Civic 1.6L SOHC VTEC Blower motor.

See what you think about this?

Bored/Stroked, Port/Polish, Polished crank, Forged rods, Low-compression pistons, Twisted valves, Titanium springs, JR cam, Copper headgasket, -my JRSC-, Fuel pressure regulator, JR ECU upgrade, Stage III clutch, and all guages (boost,fuel press,oil press,h2o temp,a/f ratio) + all my other mods.

Installed with warrenty- (parts/labor) for the same price of a 1.6L SOHC VTEC new from "Jasper" or "Mid-Atlantic"

What do you think of that? Does it sound like a good deal?

so tell me... how would the sc cancel out the turbo... it's not like the turbo will stop work, as long as there's exhaust, there's turbo

I was just gonna say that but that would certainly be neat to see that work..... Would you need to intercoolers though? And two different BOV or wastegates or something of the such?
