This is a very sentimental moment for me. I will soon be embarking upon hte world of swapping. My 95 civic EX motor has finally breathed its last breath, and the car has sat for two weeks while i drive a pos nissan pick'em up. Soon, very soon, im going to buy a nice b16A swap from www.hmotorsonline.com out of a SiRII. Theres one problem: its going to be done not in a shop. Not by experienced honda swappers, but instead, by me and a friend of mine who builds mustangs and has mustang swap experience etc, and rebuilt his v8 with like 603462340 new gaskets etc...
Im technical enough to work at radioshack, and i can identify whatever is under my hood for the most part, etc. But, what i need is to make sure i have some kind of backing. Im going ot have to return to work on monday, and swapping a motor, working 25 hours a week, and school every day until 3 will not be an easy task. Im just trying to see if i can find any people who are experienced that i can ask to be on call at most any time for advice and some form of instruction. Also, a tutorial or some kind of book or website that has step by step instructions for this specific motor would be very helpful. Im planning on it taking like 3 weeks ? with work and such. Working on it constantly with a friend. Also, a list of required tools would be very very very very very very helpful, and some of their uses. Hes got a motor picker and some jack stands and whatnot. I just wnat as much knowledge as possible.
thanks in advance.

Also, if anyone near nashville wants to randomly help a pooR kid who might be able to buy pizza and stuff (sorry no beer the dudes parents are wholesome) then that would be more than awesome.

HELMS MANUAL.....
you will never have to ask another motor question again.
you'll actually need 2 though, one for the motor and one for the chassis.
you have an EX though so it should be pretty straightforward.
edit: is the motor you are getting obdI or obdII?

Good luck wiring the thing in - that was my biggest problem. Steve from HMO told me what he told you,
"Just plug in your stock ex wiriing harness when you put the new motor in."
****Yeah, ok Steve, but how come the freaking plugs are in the wrong spots and i have to lengthen/extend almost everything?****

Good Luck, let us know how it goes.

isnt there a special order for the plugs? I mean some order that you only have to extend 1 or 2 plugs instead of all of them? I wish I could remember what it was.......

Steve told me it was only 2 plugs, but it was a lot more than that!

Gee, that makes sence - maybe i shoulda just had my engine swap done at my local radio shack instead of at a performance shop with trained, experienced professionals.

2 helms for both things 1 for chassis (your ex) and 1 for your motor to fix things that will go wrong with it

Go to honda-tech and search the archieves... you'll find ANY problem that has ever come up or will... you'll also find any resorces you need...
I'd also recomend getting a helms...
Oh and cashslick... you need to calm down a bit... it's NOT that big of a deal... it's a pain and shops charge out the butt and complain about pain jobs... that's why most people do it themselves... which should state in itself how easy it can be if you do proper research... and most mechanics solder about as well as ball room dancers box.

IF i had known how much of a pain this was gonna be for my wallet, i would have either a) bought a USDM LS motor and Slapped a Vtec head on it, or b) Rebuilt and turboed my stupid D16Z6.
Im just mad that i let my impulsiveness get the best of me - no offence to anybody.

And why does that mean you have to go PMS on me over and over again ? Im willing to do the ENTIRE swap by myself, so whats wrong with doing some wires ? And dont say im asking stupid questions. Im not stupid in the least. IT never hurts to ask too many times when youre inexperienced because there are all kinds of things that can go wrong. Damn.

I am not calling you stupid for asking questions or wanting to do the job yourself - ask all the questions you want - i wish i had.

You did something wrong then, because all you have to rewire is the o2 and vtec, and that is only on some models, as a matter a fact you can even get the vtec wires to reach without extending them, if you are creative in your positioning of the harness.

You'd think so, but since the JDM B16 sits in a right hand drive car, their wiring harness lays out completely differently. Believe me, i had both harnesses layed out and the plugs were in completely different places - trust me (guess how shocked i was when i saw this).

RHD is a good point.
Well duh, that's why we can't use the JDM harness's. But the EX harness will plug into the motor, then plug into your car.

As i said eariler, the motor used to be in a right hand drive car, this means that their harness lays out differently - A.K.A the plugs are in different places.[/Clears Throat]
Do you really think that i wanted to spend the money i spent getting this stupid thing put in if all i had to do was "plug it in"?
If it was so easy, it would have pluged in when i physically went under the hood of my car w/my mechanic and tried to do it myself!
Believe me.
Steve From HMO expected me to do a ghetto job and run the plug wires all throught the engine bay - thats not the right way to do things even if it is what most others do.
How many RHD honda motors have you swapped into a car before?
The wiring here was completely different, THE ONLY HONDA MOTORS THAT "PLUG IN" are the USDM ones.
You can try and be smart and do the whole throat clearing thing all day. But the FACT is, that the plugs on the ENGINE are in the same places, left hand drive, right hand drive, whatever... the HARNESS plugs into the opposite sides at the CANON PLUGS at the SHOCK TOWERS. So the only HONDA WIRING HARNESS'S THAT PLUG IN ARE USDM HARNESS'S. now stop being a dumbass and go do your swap with your harness. There is nothing GHETTO about it, other than having to cut and extend the vtec side, and the o2 sensor wires. As a matter of fact if you want to be a clean as you can, you can get the USDM harness for whatever engine you are putting in, and use that.
