Hey all - its good to be back!
Ok, so i finished my project for the summer - to do an engine swap on my car. I got a JDM B16A SIR-II from www.Hmotorsonline.com. The swap took longer than i had originally hoped because since this is a JDM motor, my stock wiring harness would not plug in properly. Other than the wiring problems (which are all set now) the rest of the motor went in just fine.
My car is now a whole new animal - much faster than it used to be. It needs to go back to my shop for some minor stuff (headlight, new belts, brakes) but the car is running real good.
To anybody thinking of doing and engine swap - it was definately worth it!

I had someone else do it - but man. . . . it was expensive.
Wiring was definately the biggest problem, since the motor was JDM, the plugs had to be run through the harness so the motor would run right.

Props..... it looks like you retained the A/C huh? I was looking at that site and the motor pricing confuses me. How much was your motor and what did it come with? If you dont mind me asking:)

Hey, how much did it cost for someone to drop it in for you, and how long did it take. Hope you dont mind me asking either. Im getting a swap and need to know roughly how much its gonna cost.
Thanks
Steve

I paid about 2350 for the motor, an extra 300 for the LSD tranny, and then i had to pay shipping.

Well, The actual installation of the MOTOR was real easy, only 3 hours to take out the old motor and put in the new one (with the axles, alternator, and all that other stuff).
The problem i ran into was that since i am using a JDM motor, there are connectors on parts of the motor that were in the wrong place - so this swap was not plug and play.
"steve" at HMO said that i should just take my stock harness and plug it into the new motor and run a knock sensor and extend my O2 sensor, but that was not the case.
The shop that did my swap showed me that there was no way to get my stock harness to plug in, and instead of doing the ghetto thing by running wires throughout the engine compartment, they rewired my wiring harness to fit the new motor : that was deffinately the most unexpected and expensive part of the swap.
If you are going to do a swap, do not go with a JDM motor, use a USDM one because it WILL be a plug and play swap.

$2,350 for B16A2 Chngvr, $300 for LSD equipped Transmission, $250 for shipping plus a 3% credit
charge = $2,987.
These things always seem to cost more then we intend.

Man, that's awesome though. I'm wanting to do an engine swap in my hatchback - for real. I'm running a d15a - it sucks. yeah, that swap was really expensive, but worth it right? That's awesome man.

That is not bad for a JDM/LSD tho. I've seen a B16A swap go for $3500 (including labor).

LOL, well, it does feel good to know that i am driving a car with a real honda motor in it - Ive talked about doing this for so long, i am even having trouble believing it!
Ok, I initially paid my buddies shop 400$ to put in the motor - they did all that except for the wiring, which i had to get the car sent out to another shop to have done - those guys did an excellent job re-wiring my wiring harness to fit the new motor, but they also charged 70$ an hour - for 32 hours of wiring nonsence - but hey, thats just cause i had the JDM motor.
Even though this swap turned out to be much more expensive than i had originally hoped, it was sssooooooo worth it.
***** i must be honest and say that if i had known it would be much more expensive and tiring to get the JDM motor to work, i would have kept searching junkyards for a USDM B16a or B18c.
The bottom line is that it was worth it.

No Typo - i know it is ludicrous, but i was desprate to get my car back.
In order for the wiring harness to fit right, there were 300 wires that had to be re saudered to fit properly.
That is why i wish i knew that the JDM motor did not plug right in, if i had, i would have done things very differently.
Since i took my car to a quality place, they completed the wiring in the most expensive way possible, and i was unable to do anything about it because i was desperate, desperate to get my car back.
**Please do not mention that anymore (the 70$ an hour thing) i feel like such a moron for having this done.
Steve from HMO told me that my stock harness would plug right in, but it did not - i saw for myself that things are never as easy as they seem.

Turns out the only way to get a job done right and not ghetto is to do it the right way.
Steve From HMO and all the other people who i had talked too (HAsport) insisted that the JDM b16 was a direct plug in swap. You have no idea how mad i was when i heard that the motor would not plug in.
So, instead of ghetto wiring the thing, i decided to have this done the right way - through the harness. I have absolutely no communication problems, everything works (including dash lights) and A/C.
I am quite irate at the fact that HMO expected me to ghetto wire the motor - that is why they said it was a direct plug in swap.
Believe me, this is no understatement.

When you have no car for a month, and are moving away, you will be surprised how desperate you will be to get your car back.
