How do I go about breaking in the new Civic when I pick it up?
I've heard to run slow - as to give everything a chance to settle in
I've heard to run hard - as to run varying speeds to set the comp and to work in the engine and tranny...
?????????????????
The only thing I've heard that I'm buying is to run as normal but with no aggressive moves, hard launches, l hi revving up and down the gears, crap like that.
Please advise. I want this ride to be my butta!

i've always run softly for the first oil change (break-in oil), then run as you see fit. If it didn't break during the break in period, then you should be o.k. Good luck with your new car.

Coo...
My friend just picked up an 03 Accord. He was told that his first oil change was to be at 8000km (5000 miles). Does that apply for the Civic too?
I run a lot of mileage, so I'd want to make sure I did this badboy right!

Newer cars, like 96' ^, you can change the oil every 5k miles.

Should I go nutz and use synthetic or will I be alright if I stick with the same-ole if I change frequently enough?
I'm not too technically inclined, but ain't afraid of my own oil changes...
I still have to poke around and get used to the layout of the Honda powerplant. Once I figure out where everything is, I should be in an okay position

Don't use synthetic on a new engine. Run dinosaur oil for the first few changes at least.
Oil change intervals are in the manual. I'd trust honda on that one. For the first change, however, I'd flush the oil more frequently than what is says, say, at 500 and 1500 miles if the manual says change at 3000. Most of the new-engine crap will dirty your oil at the beginning of break-in, so change the filter too.
