i went past a parking lot yesterday ang looked down in there and what do i see..... howa bouta 1988 honda prelude dumped...sombody took the tag off and that stuff... so its obviously been dumped... and i reallllllly need some parts.. (i.e the motor)... what do i do to get this thing before thay tow it!!?? i know i wont have the keys or the title.. but i wont be driving it.. and i can have it wired and running in 3 min.. so i relly dont need the keys...all i need from it is the motor and some interior parts... and i dont wanna go over there and just TAKE it... cuz thats just not right... and i kinda dont want to be charged with grand theft auto.. u know that would kinda suck for a 15 year old....but yea what do i do!!?

just go to the police impound and ask to buy it for dirt cheap after they tow it :yes:

Don't touch it until they tow it. Don't want to catch a case for something you didn't do in the first place. You're just an opportunist, not a theif. :bandit:

file for abandond vehicle. if it is legit they will send you a title for it.

the cops want it out of there anyway... they'll through a big red sticker on the window and the first tow company to see it and wants it will take it...

then they'll either sell it or part it out...

If you talk to the cops they MAY (not likely) allow you to have it towed... then you have to make a reasonable attempt to notify the legal owner... after that and proof of that you can file for a lost title..
