as you've noticed, i'm kinda slow:dunce: so can someone clarify for me what "being ricey" is exactly? is it just having a bunch of vinyls plastered on your car? or?
...i'm pretty sure i've been stricken with this "ricey-ness"....

I think "rice" is kind of opinionated. Usually means tons of stickers, giant wings, etc.

Some say "A tacky mod done to a car that does not add any performance." I liken to agree.

Yea, it's pretty stupid when someone calls a stock S2000 rice... That would be like calling any GM or Ford car "wheat" or something. But yea, rice is really in the eye of each person. As a general rule of thumb, the more closed-minded the person is, the more likely they are to call something "rice".

I think theres no such thing as rice. People do whatever they want to do with their car because they like it. Just because it looks stupid to someone else doesnt mean shit.

Im pretty sure they didnt put it on if they thought it was "ricey" or ugly.

I'll agree that rice is in the eyes of the beholder. A wing on a front wheel drive car really never made sense to me, especially if you've not done any other mods. The 5" tach that makes the entire car glow, is kind of ricey, especially if you already have a tach. The tach is excusable if your car is BOMB and you need a percision tach with shift light. Stickers are pretty rice, especially if you have stickers like greedy or NOS and my stock civic can still out run you.

The autozone commercial with the "custom rides"

"Autozone can help you make your car the coolest... etc etc"

my idea of rice (no offence of course) is making your car look / appear faster than it actually is. allow me to ellaberate before i get flamed. i have absolutely nothing against making a showcar, i watch hi rev tuners every now and then on speedchannel. there is some interesting things on there. i am referring to huge un nessessary spoilers, primer front body kits, stupid guages that are not needed, enought stickers to build a house, achieving that all mighty PHHH if a turbo or nitrous purge w/ out actually having it etc.....

I guess I should expand my 2 cents:

I have respect for all cars... import, domestic, exotic, whatever. But what I respect the most is the effort and dedication of the people putting to their cars, whether to make a car go faster or improve appearance. The way I look at it, it's not my money getting spent, therefore I beleive that it's not my position to judge. However, I will state my opinion if asked on whether certain things appeal to me or not. In my observation, "rice" just became a word referred to as anything added to a japanese/korean car that is not appealing to another person's eye, whether in the subject of performance or appearance.

i say the only thing i call rice is the stickers people have on there car but dont have any of the parts.....thats about it though.....i meen if someone likes how there car looks then who has the right to call it rice?......who cares what anyone thinks as long as you like it

now my friend on the otherhand...his car is shit.......spraypainted molding white....all the plastic on the outside is white.....spraypainted logo on the back window....red tint on the outside of the headlights......chicken wire grille....blue,white,red interior pieces....all chipping off cause he used fingernail poilish and cheep spraypaint........has 13inch skateboarded wires........a corvette spoiler and a spraypainted black logo on the hood.....you tell me......it looks like shit........plus his muffler is supported by 5 coathangers and the exhaust is covered in heat tape
