I'm taking a trip to NYC in three weeks, and I'm currently investigating hotels. I found a cheap, decent looking one in Hell's Kitchen, and the best part is that they offer free parking.

My question is this: is Hell's Kitchen as bad as it used to be? Or has it been cleaned up? Is it a safe neighborhood now?

TIA

Nah! It's not that bad at all. Mayor G has cleaned up the city! I lived in NYC for the first 24 years of my life and if he could clean up the Square then the rest of the city is a piece of cake. I visited last year and it even felt safer than I remembered it ever being while I lived there. We stayed walking distance from Times Square and parked right on the street in front of the hotel for 2 days without incident. I would advise you NOT, I repeat NOT speaking to anyone off the street about where you are staying and what you are doing and avoid revealing that you are carrying any large amounts of cash on you. After all it's STILL New York. But have a good time. I guarantee that you havent experienced any city like it!

Some people just give New York a bad rap. Its not like it used to be. The mayor has done a great job making it better.
